Heated Seat Problem - Lights click off immediately?
Car: 2007 335i w/ 50k
Issue: The driver's side heated seat stopped working recently. When the button is pushed, the three indicator lights turn on, then turn off almost immediately. There is also and audible 'click' noise, which I traced to somewhere under the seat. Solutions attempted: I have checked all fuses (not sure the damn fuse guide is anywhere near accurate?), and that does not appear to be the issue. Any thoughts/experiences on what this might be? Is there a diagram/DIY for the seat heaters somewhere that might help? |

Looking at the wiring diagram in the Bentley manual - Looks like it's Fuse 29. Looks like both driver and passenger "heater modules" are tied into that fuse. If you're passenger heated seat it working, then the fuse should be good and it's most likely the driver side heating module. Not sure what they mean by heater module.

okay - pretty confident that I have sourced the clicking noise to this part under the driver's seat. I can literally feel the click when I push the button.
Anyone familiar with this part and if replacing it might resolve the issue? The box is not very big and does not appear to be modular, so I would imagine I would have to replace the entire unit, regardless of what else it controls. |

Not yet, and I haven't been able to find many resources to help. Looking like I may need to pay a shop to take a look.
I was also sent the relevant pages from the Bentley manual and have found others online that interestingly do not contain the same part I took a photo of. I must have an earlier build date or something |

Might be a problem with the module itself. Not sure though. Let us know when you find out.

Also, does your driver seat have the same box under I took a photo of? Some of my research suggests this might be an early build thing. |

Seat issue
I am having the same issue!! Drivers seat heater clicks off as well seat adjustment stops working. I drive a 2007 335i Sedan, built 9/2006. I asked the parts guy at my local BMW dealership and he told me he was not familiar with this issue. I originally thought it was the circuit board under the seat as well, put parts guy suggested the seat adjustment switch on left. He said it definitely sounds like a circuit board issue, and all the power for the seat goes through it. Trying to source a used one or something as my local dealer wanted $336 for the switch with memory. If anyone finds a solution, please post as I would love to get this fixed. It's cold out, and my butt is not enjoying the cold leather.
Warning!! Do NOT unplug the cable under the seat while the car is running. I plugged it while the car was running as I was trying to do some problem determination and tripped the Air Bag sensor. I could not reset it as it is a safety issue, and had to pay the BMW shop to plug it into their system to reset it. I know how to reset the service interval stuff, but this is different. |

Please please let me know if you track down the issue. I talked to a BMW tech about it and they said it was not necessarily the circuit/controller. Said the heated seats will do they if they detect issues with the heater elements, thermostats, etc... So it could be any thing they said |

Finally got around to setting up my OBD cable, and this was the codes that were read from the driver's seat module:
************************************** 9E5A Fehler Schnell heizfeld Kissen signal oder Wert oberhalb Schwelle Testbedingungen erfullt Fehler momentan vorhanden und bereits gespeichert Fehler wurde kein aufleuchten einer Warnlampe verursachen Error Code: 9E 5A 61 2C 88 4D ************************************** a little internet translation later, and we get... ************************************** 9E5A Error fast heating area NTC cushion Error will not cause a warning light Error is not currently present Test conditions have been completed Error Code: 9E 5A 61 2C 88 4D ************************************** I also did a live status read of the seat's cushion temperature and it read a constant -40C, which I would assume means the cushion temp sensor is not reading correctly/at all. I will do some research and post these findings in the coding forums, but figured I would share what I had found so far. |
