Shaping up nicely!

If you want to get rid of the cheap 12v lighter cover, I can recommend the Optimill milled plug, is available in a few colours to suit and I've replaced my last three, the VW stock version is particularly nasty.

Cutting costs is not surprising but annoying when they put a two penny part in very visible location in a 40/50k+ car.

The chap (Neil) who does the wiring loom for these had now got an extension loom measured up so it can feed off the footwell ambient lighting, it follows the oem loom path to the side sills and then a simple plug and play kit to connect to the light, he's an electrical engineer so all the resistance and power draw is kept within spec, he's a good bloke too.

His X3 forum profile is here https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/member.php?userid=170030

how they fit is to take the cover holding the light under the dash off, and the door cover, you plug the two way splitter cable in to the light to get a feed then route the loom under and up the footwell side trim and feed it to the lower door trim then you follow the existing loom under the insulation.

You then will need to use a fishing wire to feed the loom under the carpet to the seat. then that lead joins to the existing wires for the seat loom he normally supplies which is in his instructions to feed up the seat how the oem M3/4 seats are done.

If you wanted to un-connect it to take to a dealers or to turn them off you can just reach under the seat and put the connectors apart easily.

Hi Cannockwolf
Glad your happy with the job

It really lifts the interior and completes it, it still amazes me why BMW go to the lengths they do designing beautiful ambiant interior lighting and then omit this detail just doesn’t make sense

Still we have an effective solution

These were the awkward buggers, you HAVE to unbolt the headlights to wiggle them out the front of the car 5mm or you will not be able to take the heat sink out even with the torx removed, once i realised that the second on was done in 20-30 mins taking my time.

cannockwolf , you’d improve the looks 10 fold by getting rid of the illegal plate. Mis spaced plates are gash.

(And sticky pads would look better than that plate holder thing on the rear).
