Wheel & Tire questions (Great white north)
I have a new 328i and have Bridgestones RFT on 156 style 16" wheels. Now my question is about this winter. I live in Montreal and drive up north (that's north-north to US posters) for some skiing every weekend of our long winters. Should I...
A) Buy winter RFT 16" and mount them on my 156? Is this going to damage the tires as I mount and remove tires from rims every spring / fall? B) Buy a set of steel rims (16 in) and mount my winter tires on them? How is that going to look? C) Buy winter RFT tires, mount them on my 156, and buy a new set of 18 inch rims ( the choice is very large ) and summer tires for next spring, Selling the actual Brigestones' with 6 months use on them. Thanks for any help on this subject... |

I live in Toronto and did something similar to Option C. Bought 19" CSLs + tires for the summer and mounted 17" winter tires (non RFT) on my stock 161s. Holding onto the stock Bridgestone RFTs so I can remount them before returning the car (I'm on a lease).

I agree with all of the others.
What kind of wheels would you replace them with, OEM or aftermarket? Are you trying go with a staggered set up or the same size all around? Whatever it may be, let me know if I can help you out, and I'll be glad to do so -Don |

Thanks to all of you. I must say i'm not surprised by your answers, this being a BMW enthusiasts Forum and not a sensible family economics forum.
I am also an enthusiast, and will be going for option C... Now this said... |

We actually have both of those styles available in 18s. The ACS ones are not on our website but are available in an 18x8.5, the CSLs are on on our website and are available as 18x8.5 all around or 18x8.5 in the front and 18x9.5 in the rear.

CSL are like the second picture... and they might look a bit like style 197 OEM rims. I like both of those.. the first ones are too pimped for my taste. So the questions remains:
Difference between 18X8.5 and 18X9.5... is that the width that changes? If so I guess 8.5 is what I want, knowing my winter tires will go on 16X7. What to do with suspension? Will I just leave it alone and swap from summer to winter without it looking odd? Or may I lower the suspension on a temporary basis? BTW thanks for your inputs... |

C is the best.
Buy winter tires and put it on your OEM rims. For summer time than buy some 18 - 19

You can leave the suspension as stock if you wish, no need to raise and lower it for the seasons.
18" VB3's would be a good choice for you.

If you did need to lower/raise it, it'd probably take you an hour at most to do both the fronts and rears if you had KW coilovers, or any other coilover almost in fact. |
