Thinking of rocking the "outlaw" look and going sans tips.

Swapping from black tips to chrome is my preference, unless I remove the Shadowline package which I suspect I will not do as I believe the Shadowline headlights are best suited with TR.

I personally would not risk breaking open a sealed LED headlight. You WILL void the BMW warranty on them along with any/all electronics associated with them. When you present a way out of a warranty claim any service department will pounce on it.

Edit, average per LED headlight is $2k as well.

I’m assuming this is because the dealership makes less from BMW warranty reimbursement than customer pay?

That would be a safe bet. They probably have a lower labor rate deal and do not pocket any profit on parts used.

Another Non-Shadowline headlight photo that was intentionally taken Horatiu at BMWBLOG. It probably does not get any better than this other than standing right in front of it.

BTW, Notice the other item of chrome other than the eyebrow. It is not just the eyebrow that has been chromed. I have highlighted around it with green.

This is one case where Porsche’s system of ala cart makes sense. Some portions you want blacked out and others it doesn’t look as good.

Agreed! Porsche is definitely the master of à la carte.

With today's tech, they could totally do a la carte options. A clear evidence is how specific markets offer the available options differently (some packages are vastly different from one market to another). The assembly lines can adapt easily.

However, corporate packages "popular" options together in order to force a higher overall price tag all in the name of convenience. Dear lord, I am not ordering a combo meal at a fast food joint. I can spend the extra 30 min max going through individual options when buying a $90k CAD car. It would validate the role of CAs even more and make the experience special when ordering your car at the dealer. The bean counters must know better and determined this is the way to maximize profits.

I would go for the standard version.

The shadowline lights are too dark for my liking. It takes away from some of the design of the lights. I don’t dislike them, but I slightly prefer the standard version.

I will say I do like them more on the M2 than the M3/4. On the M5 I would get the shadowline light option.

I feel the exterior color plays a rather large part in what works best with which headlight. I was 100% the standard headlight until last week when all the press pics started to drop. I now think Shadowline works the best with Toronto Red, Brooklyn Grey, and Black Sapphire. If the standard headlight was just the chrome eyebrow at the top, that would be enough, but the design has got chrome going around the LED unit itself. That is a little much when combined with the DRL.
