Which was best E46 or E90
Been thinking about the good ole days when i had my E46 330d... really loved that car....
Which got me thinking, which, at the time of ownership, did i preffer., the E46 or the E90. This is purley based on how the car was/is to live with and not based soley on performance. Think more along the lines of, driving experience, living with the car, problems had or not etc...you get the idea... Me personally, as much as i love my E90, it just doesnt hit the spot like the E46 did in its day...call it rose tints, just the way i feel..at 126,000 miles the thing didn't even have a rattle or squeak!!... There's no doubting that the game was moved on with the E90! However, for a number of reasons I went back to an E46 and certainly didn't feel short changed. I'm now looking to move back to an E90, but still reckon the E46 is a better looker.

i moved from a sliver grey 320ci coupe sport 53 plate to my e90 and i thought the ride was much better, but i allways miss the 170 6 pot engine twin tail pipes sounded nice when i floored it, but its swings and round abouts i guess

Ooooooo a discussion I can contribute too!
I have owned an E46 330Ci Sport it was a lovely little car, all these extras, SatNav even a TV lol! The only thing I HATED about the car was it's gearbox, it was an Automatic Out of the E90's I have been in compared to my E46 I prefer the E90's interior it is very up to date, I like the little semi circle on top of the dash where the SatNav is I think it would be better than where the E46's was. I think the E46 looked a little more agressive and a little bit more traditional BMW, the E90 is a very different shape.

I got my first BMW 4 years ago and it was an imola red E46 320d M Sport, and it was a fantastic car (earlier cars were a 3L Omega sport and 2.5L Vectra).
The E46 was much more fun to drive than any earlier car and the satnav and TV were great too. I was sorry to see it go. E90 face lift comes next month, but the step from Omega to E46 was much greater than the step from E46 320d to E90 330d, so on that basis, I vote for the E46. Have to say the stealer who introduced me to the E46 was very good, not pushy at all - the cars just sell themselves. I'm just annoyed I have not been driving these cars for longer.

I think you have to look at what was about when the E46 was introduced...compare that era to whats about on the market now...E90 light years ahead? |

defo, agree 100%, but how did it feel in the day compared with the competition at that time?
I really think my 330d felt more planted on the road at speed over my E90...think thats down to the run flats...still, would say that this point is valid and deffinatley a regression, as i think ride and handling are a major factor in any car...just my 2 cents |

Dynamically the e90 is also a step forward although to me it feels a bigger heavier car. I loved the e46 coupe looks, but found the saloon a little dull. The e92 doesn't grab me in the same way, but visually the e90 is a lot better than the e46 saloon. Yet .. somehow, my v-reg e46 323i is still my favourite car. |

cars of that era were things like...vectra's...406's...the old mondeo...
I suppose the point i'm trying to make is, at that time, i think the E46 stood out more from the crowd in terms of quality, engineering, looks etc than the competition of the time, compared to the E90 and the current competition, it sort of blends in, not saying its a bad thing, i just remember the first time i saw an E46er and thinking it was instantly appealing as opposed to when i first saw the E90, which to be honest i wasn't so keen on I still double take when i see a mint E46 M3 |

The E90 is better than the E46, as you'd expect for a newer car, but I voted E46. It was my first BMW so there is a definite rose tint, but my old 318Ci never put a foot wrong and was a real class act to drive and own.
E46 pros: Build, ride E46 cons: Offset pedals (more so than the E90 if memory serves) E90 pros: Dynamics, toys (aux-in, Bluetooth etc), economy/CO2 E90 cons: Runflats
