I’d argue in many cases it is the opposite. I, for example, was excited about seeing the G87 and was planning at some point to upgrade to it. But, after seeing it and having driven the G80 on track, the looks, weight + transmission in particular (ZF is sluggish and Manual is rubbery) have convinced me that no, it’s not for me.

As for looks specifically, I was excited as I mentioned. But, my initial reaction when I saw it was one of severe disappointment. That feeling has changed a bit, but it’s more acceptance vs. liking it. I honestly consider this a step back vs. F87. That has nothing to do with me owning an F87. Just my honest opinion. I wish I saw it and thought ‘wow!’ as it would make my next buying decision easy. As it stands, I have no idea what I’ll replace the F87 with.

I will happily await an LCI/CS etc in hope they fix some issues but don’t assume people who have F87 are biased. I WANT to love this car, but I can’t.

Happy for anyone who has the G87 though. It’s still a great car regardless.

Say what you want man, I’m not here to convince you. I just think it’s silly to assume someone can’t like something just because they have the previous model. They’re invested in the brand already, the opposite seems logical.

If anything I would argue that fans of the G87 are too sensitive to any criticism. For many, it’s their first ‘M’ and they’re defensive of their purchase (only natural). Be happy with your purchase, it’s still a great car. Just accept not everyone thinks it’s a clear upgrade over last gen. I’ve had similar comments from E46 owners about the F87 for example. Doesn’t bother me, I think both are awesome in their own right.

I'm moving from a Saphire Black G42 to the Brooklyn Grey G87, very pleased with the decision.

They seem to have that in common with the vast majority of people placing orders or joining the waitlist for this car... Turns out that existing M2 owners are the most engaged in a discussion about... well... an M2

I think both statements are true:

a) F87 keepers are biased towards their car and want to rationalize their decision
a) G87 buyers are biased towards their car and want to rationalize their decision

In any case, it is completely delusional to claim that only F87 keepers have an issue with how this cars looks. Plenty of non-M2 and non-BMW people find it to be awkward and ugly. It's a polarizing design. Nothing wrong in admitting that.

These dull greys are sooo played out now. Like stuck in 2018. Yeah colours like this were cool in 2001 when Audi made an Aviator Grey Audi TT but in 2022 I see Kias rolling around in these greys. Blah.

Oh and G87 >>> F87, looks wise.

Looks like it’s missing it’s front teeth. And that’s the best part of the car. Yikes

Agreed. I wanted to like it and I fully intended to upgraded until I saw pictures of it. And for those who like it I’m happy for them.

Hasnt grown on me like IX did. Its the small fussy details. I dont even mind the square intakes, but why those strange not very confident headlights? Or the way that badge sits ... sunk into a small cul de sac?

Not a pretty car, hence best to have in dark color to hide all this paranoia of body work.

One of my closest buddies and I go back and forth on this car almost daily. I love it and he hates it, but we’re both buying it. We pick apart the car line-by-line and agree to disagree often.

I guess what I am trying to say is that this discourse is natural with a polarizing car and should be welcomed from both sides unconditionally.
