Methanol injection w/o a tune ok?
I've just picked up my first 335d. It was a miraculous find @ $16k w/ 81,000m and a full intake cleaning (to the tune of $4400) a mere 1000 miles ago. I'd like to keep the intake clean, and I know meth will do it (at least in my experience w/ turbo petrol cars).
The diesel is a different beast. Dumping meth into my VR4 would have required updates to the VE table at the very least, changes to global fuel settings at the most. And of course, turning up the timing if I wanted to reap the real benefits. With a diesel, I wonder if these sorts of things are required if. Undoubtedly I'm leaving performance on the table without a custom tune, but if my goal is to just keep the intake clean(er) as the years go by, do I need to touch the tune? Diesel motors rev based on fuel volume, so am I really at risk of being "rich" like I would be with a petrol motor? I do plan on adding a JDB, so I suspect meth will help me run that at a high setting. Thanks in advance from this diesel noob. |

You can run meth without a tune, and it doesnt seem to inhibit DPF regen, at least as long as you arent spraying tons of meth all the time. I ran without a tune, with meth and dpf, for over 60k miles (went on the car at 60k miles, off at 120k miles) and the DPF was still doing normal distances between regens.

I'm using an aem controller with built in map sensor right now. Comes in at 15 psi, full at 28 psi. Similar to what it was when I was otherwise stock.
During a regen you shouldn't be into the pedal enough for methanol injection to have any real impact on egts. Not to mention, at 50/50 or so mix it doesn't really reduce egts much if at all |

I almost made the same post Thursday. .... I was looking into using one of the aem or snow setups... I have also been looking through my left over turbo kits and other parts and almost have everything to part together a kit... really just need a solenoid and a jet for the water and a gods switch. ..
Just looking to spray some to keep clean after I do a cbu clean |
