curb rash

I just received my car last Saturday and going home hit a pothole. I have two small curbrash on my left side two wheels. I just dropped off my m240i because it was giving me "rear brake light malfunction" warning. I asked the service people if they can recommend wheel repair guy and they said they have a company (detail/wheelrepair) at their dealership.

Should I have them do it, or should I bring it to someone else. Anyone has experience with BMW of Edison NJ?

Thanks!

Dealer farms it out to wheel repair company. They probably come to dealer once a week and fix a bunch. So probably ok to use dealer repair service.

I rashed mine and had a group here in FL do the repair. They basically paint it with “silver” paint and put clear coat. No one will know it was rashed, but you.

My car was delivered with curb rash which I luckily spotted before driving off the lot. They brought a mobile service in to "fix" the wheel, but the work was not great. I had to push for them to remove the wheel and send it to a proper repair facility that the proper toolsets. It was then repaired to my satisfaction.

Note that I did push for a new wheel, to pull a wheel off another car etc. but none were available...apparently...

The good news is that its really not that bad, and it's 100% fixable.

Try and find a reputable wheel shop in your area that has good reviews (and hopefully before/after photos)

I hit a really bad pothole years ago that completely bent my wheel, terrible curb rash, and a flat tire etc.. Took it to a local shop, and 2 days later it literally looked brand new. Could never even tell it was scratched or bent. I was blown away.

Really? From the pics, they look great to me.

They're wheels that will be taking abuse day in and day out if it's a daily ride. If you get too hung up on this stuff, you'll drive yourself nutty.

Everyone treats and values their cars and personal property in a different manner.

I clearly see a poor finish (orange peel) on the repair. Me personally, I would not accept that repair but I would not have had a mobile repair person do it. Others may feel differently

I’m with you, they look perfect to me and he’s looking too hard for things to call out. I just looked again and can find no issues. They are dirty, maybe that’s what he thinks is orange peel? I feel bad for guys that do work on his cars.

I am OCD with everything on this car. Even if I did notice an insignificant issue like orange peel on wheel paint, I’m not sure I’d care for the reasons you pointed out, they are wheels that will take wear and tear and are dirty 80% of the time…and this is a daily driver 2 series. If this was a Rolls Royce or Bugatti, maybe it would be a different story.

Easily seen, and no, not dirt.

I see. Great, now I have to worry about someone seeing that 3” section of orange peel on my right rear wheel. Bummer.

And they would have to view the wheel from 6" away.... on their hands and knees

Yeah.. now if this was a body panel or something more noticeable, I 100% would agree with him regarding it being unacceptable. For the convenience and price, I am happy with the outcome.

I went with Rim Group in NJ, it was recommended by my PPF guy. They had CNC machine, so hopefully they can get OEM finish. Car at the shop waiting for rims to come back and then they can finish PPF. Will update when the car is finished.

BTW I saw some photos of 893 wheels in all black, looks amazing. might have to do that soon.

Machining that seems like overkill. Not only is it more likely to corrode, you can only machine it so many times.

I’d have gone for a smart repair, noting I agree the one posted above is not a good example.
