Stern Performance G42 Rear Seat Delete V1
Hey guys,
Check this out! I ordered a rear seat delete from Stern Performance Parts in Germany and here’s what it looks like! Pretty sure I’m the first in the US to have this but correct me if I’m wrong! It’s just the net though. I did two orders: 1. Rear Seat Delete Net V1 2. Rear Seat Delete Net V2 + Carpet In the photo below, you can see the Rear Seat Delete Net (V1) in red. There is no carpet along the bottom. You can currently order this from Stern Performance Parts on their website. Not shown, I special ordered the Rear Seat Delete Net (V2) with a carpet. It’s still the same red net but with Carbon Fibre Strut Bars on the top and bottom on the net plus a carpet to make it look clean. If you guys have any questions let me know! Here’s the link if you want to order the V1: https://sternperformance.de/en/home/...m240i-g42.html Photos:

Tracking. Saves 55lbs of weight (or ~22kg). And I’m getting lightweight wheels too to make myself as light as possible.
My next track day is next Friday at Homestead-Miami Speedway and I’ll make another post on how that session goes.

i've thought about doing it to my m2c. its my daily but we never use the back seats. how is the noise ? usually when you fold back seats down the trunk turns into a speaker and you get extra road noise.

Noise is good. You can hear the exhaust really well through there and I think it gives the car a great small sound boost as well.

There’s at least 2 if not 4 airbags back there you could pull if you plan to leave the back seats out indefinitely. Though you’d need to figure out what resistors you need to keep the light off. I saved about 15# in my GTR removing all the carpet and sound deadening in the trunk. Left the back seat in though. I’ve taken over 200lb from that car without gutting anything besides the trunk what I found was the best bang for your buck in weight reduction is a lithium battery (18.5# in that car but I bet over 30# reduction for the G42) and 1 piece bucket seats (just under 90# reduction). My G42 will stay a heavy pig though 😂

Is 55lbs doing anything for a ~4000 lb car though?

Stock:
Assume weight of 3875# Assume engine at 400HP. 0.1032 HP per # or 9.6875 # per HP Stock but remove 55#: Assume weight of 3820# Assume engine at 400HP. 0.1047 HP per # or 9.5500 # per HP Stock but add 5HP: Assume weight of 3875# Assume engine at 405HP. 0.1045 HP per # or 9.5679 # per HP So its about equivalent to adding 5HP, but not just at peak but every RPM. Will you feel it? Nope. 55# in weight reduction alone is about equivalent to an intake... you will hear a difference but you wont feel anything But the way it effects your power/weight is pretty exponential as you add more power and further reduce the weight. But this only makes sense if you continue to mod.. to just take an otherwise stock G42 and remove the back seat, ya pointless. 55# is about 1.4% the weight of the car though. Cumulatively, that has got to add up right. If you were running consistent laps around a decent length track, that might show up. Last edited by PNTDG42; 04-01-2023 at 07:19 PM.. |

Absolutely. But the difference is not notificabke with regular driving. It’s a traction upgrade. With it, cornering is slightly better an gives me that advantage.
If you were gonna do this for everyday I would say don’t do it but if you were looking for a track-focused car, I would say to do it.

https://performancedrivinggroup.com/events/ I run every two months or so at either Sebring or Homestead-Miami. Even if you don’t track you can chill there with the rest of us. I’ll be there with some people from Miami Bimmer Club so it’ll be fun.

Hey OP, i am also interested in following the weight loss journey for our cars.
My goal is to eventually bring the weight down by 250 lbs or so. What other items have you looked into? |
