Same car, same problem. Happens maybe once or twice a month. I figured it's just an electrical glitch. Usually happens to me when:

1) Someone is not sitting in the front passenger seat properly.

2) Someone does not buckle up in the front passenger seat until the after the car is moving and the warning chime comes on.

Usually goes away in a few minutes on its own. Sometimes goes away after a shutdown / restart. Kinda like MS Windows that way...

I had this problem shortly after I got my car NEW! They are FTL..but I'm 100% sure it's covered under warranty, because I got the pads replaced + reprogrammed free of charge.

And, apparently I wasn't the only one experiencing this problem according to my SA..so you should go back and reason w/ your dealer But, I never heard of the recall.

I had to fight BMW Canada, they denied that my car was affected. I pointed out my car is giving me this while it has a valid safety from a BMW dealer. 4 days later I got a letter stating my car is included in the recall.

I had this problem in my 330i. Fixed under factory warranty with no issue. Does the recall affect Canadian vehicles?

Old thread, I know...but after searching for days I haven't seen a conclusive post on the topic. Any other Canadians have any luck having this recall done at the dealer? I just picked up a used 2006 330i and these lights are on in the dash.

Does this mean that either one or both of my airbags are not working? What about the seat belt light?

I still have to check the connectors under the seats to see if they are unplugged, or damaged, or dirty, but I have to wait until it warms up a bit here.

I've got the passenger airbag light going off. Too lazy to get it fixed.

Yup, my fiance always sets it off. She's about 110lbs. But on the other hand, if I have a very heavy friend in the car (like 300lbs) it also sets it off.
Maybe there's a middle sweet spot for weights that it won't go off at.

Anytime I have skinny women it comes and goes like when they distribute their weight. I never had a 300lb friend in my car but close about 260-280 and that never set it off. The most annoying thing is when I have a bag in the front seat it will say use the seat belt. Stupid weight issues.

Wow reviving an old post from the dead.

I ended up buying a sensory bypass module off eBay for about $50 or so, which tricks the car into thinking there's always a passenger, so the airbags will always deploy. The only drawback from doing this was you'd also have to buckle the seat belt if you drive without a passenger, or else it would always beep at you. I solved this issue with a $5 eBay extra seat belt buckle. Then, reset the airbag light.

The reason I did all that for $55 was because my car had already had the passenger occupancy mat replaced under recall, and then happened again way after the warranty expired, and BMW wasn't interested in fixing it out of warranty without huge expense.

I'm happy with my solution.
