Limp Mode Due To Sstt

So after installing my sstt i started getting limp mode,i took out the tune and brought the car in to bmw, it took them 2 weeks to find the problem, even after the tune was out the car would still go to limp mode as i accelerated. They never found the problem a buddie of mine who works there told me they had to reset the whole cars computer, lol, atleast limp mode is gone. Now i m worried should i put the tune back in,is it possible i have a defective sstt?? Anyone else experience this? i did a search and nothing on this topic....

If you were getting limp mode w/out the SSTT, then it probably wasn't the SSTT causing the problem. I'm sure someone with better knowledge will chime in on this.

yea^ i would agree there. when isntalling, make sure the car is in sleep more per instructions or just disconnect the battery. make sure the SSTT is connected/plugged in securely to both the TMAP sensor and the TMAP wire. if you want to go further, make sure all the wire on the SSTT are nice and tight into there places.
doesnt sound like a SSTT realted issue tho.

That's like saying, ever since you put in the SSTT, your brakes started to squeek and now that the SSTT is off, the brakes still squeek, so it should be the SSTT's fault.

Let all errors clear stored in the ECU. I once had a problem where the car didn't run as expected after a piggyback installation ( my fault - the car has not been in sleep mode ). The car ran fine again - stock - after a mobile BMW service cleared all errors stored in the ECU.

Maybe incorrect installation? I've hooked many cars up with sstt's and no limp modes?

gonna try it again,my only issue is losing my car for 2 weeks, linmp mode is when the car shows a yellow transmission light half shaded in,you lose all power to the car, when you re start it the error is gone,
Also xs boost your quote makes no sense the brakes and the sstt have nothing in common, the computer and the sstt do have alot in common, if it caused an error in the computer even after removed the error would still be there, until they reset the cars computer. So re think your qoutes and if you have nothing to say that would help the topic please refrain from writing, thank you

How bout you do this, reset your car and try installing the sstt again. Make sure the clamps are on tight and everything is installed correctly.

There's no need to get your panties up in a bunch. I was only trying to say that you can't automatically point blame to the SSTT just because it happened post install. There could be other factors that may have caused your car to throw errors.

This time to ensure that the car's in sleep mode, disconnect the battery.

If the car went into limp mode with the SSTT out, the device had nothing to do with it. Unlike a piggyback that can have installation/removal errors which could cause limp mode, once the SSTT is out it is completely out. IF you made a mistake during either the installation or removal it would have been recorded by the car as an error in the TMAP sensor.

And IF that happened, it would be an installation issue, not a problem with SSTT. Most likely the limp mode is not related to SSTT.

have the same problem. it only happens in "D" mode when accelerating at a somewhat decent rate (i.e. speeding up to get on the highway). in "DS" there's never a problem. i've tried loading the car in higher gears (at low speeds) to let the turbos fully spin for a good 5-6 seconds. still, no problem in "DS" mode. it's probably just an electronic issue.

so many people with the SSTT have this problem. i haven't tried taking it out and don't really care enough as long as the car's fine.

UPDATE: so ive had mine for about a yr now - never had a single problem, drove the car HARD (sprited driving, some may say) - anyway i just got the LIMP 2 now and it appeared in the same drivin conditions so im curious . . .

ONLY when i am accelerating past 120mph does the LIMP occur, anyone else notice this phenomenon? wierd that i cant do anything to rectify it - just fly past 120 and pooof, its there - otherwise the car is flawless

Do people who have this limp mode problem use "disconnect the battery" technique to let ECU go to sleep before installing SSTT?

I did when I installed mine a few months ago...Never had any problems so far. The downfall is that you have to set everything up again after reconnecting the battery i.e., clock, daytime running lights, etc.

When i installed my SSTT i had the car in sleep mode all night.Doors locked, hood opened.Took 3 minutes to install and not a lomp mode or anything else but more power and torque.Been on now for a couple of months with spirited driving everyday.Spirited,by no means abusing it.
