X5D - ABC Delete - Exhaust dust on back car? Extended pipes
Anyone with ABC delete have issue with exhaust dust building up on back of car? I have a white SUV and after about 200-300 miles it becomes very noticeable (and will stain the paint if I don't wash weekly)
I thought I remembered reading that one user extended the tail pipes to avoid this issue. Anyone else having this problem? |

Look into Ceramic Pro - it provides a nice barrier for the paint.
...OR.....you could custom fab the exhaust pipe to turn down toward the pavement |

To answer your question, yes. It is inevitable with ABC delete. I'm just glad I have a dark blue car
Here's a quick explanation as to why this happens: As you drive down the road, a low pressure zone is created at the back of the vehicle due to the shape of the car. The faster moving air over the body cannot flow easily to this void without separating from the surface, creating turbulent airflow / vorticies. These vorticies can kick the exhaust soot into this low pressure zone which will end up as residue on the bumper/trunk/glass/lights. Potential solutions to mitigate this residue buildup on the back of the vehicle: 1) Downturn pipes which allow the exhaust to exit toward the ground allowing less soot to be drawn into the low pressure region. 2) Rear side-exit pipes which extend beyond the vehicle body similar to larger diesel trucks. 3) SMOKE STACKS!!!!!

Local gas station does unlimited car washes for $30 a month, and has a decent touchless car wash, used to hit it up 2 times a day sometimes after I deleted my Jetta

Wow that seems excessive although a) my car is Blue Water Metallic and b) you may give it the stick more. I'm running a JR tune.

I also run a white car and my bumper looks nothing like that, even after a month of no wash, with road salt to boot... although my mileage is 90% hwy
That must be a rich tune, vacuum leak, stop-n-go traffic or addiction to skinny pedal being depressed hard and often? That said, I should also check into the ceramic-pro because the residue is hard to wipe during normal hand wash. I find a little spray of stoner's window cleaner and a quick wipe with quick detailer keeps the paint surface slick and clean. |
