The D vs.... o
I happened to have a bit of a game of cat and mouse on the weekend with a 2007 ish audi s5 v8.... Conditions were cold but, slick so I peddled a bit and was a bit chicken... Guy pulls up to me and his draw dropped when I told him it was a diesel... We played for a bit, however he was crazier than I and I didn't really open it up until I hit a straight stretch with a merge... Pulled on him hard uphill over a bridger on a straight stretch...But I was ahead of him due to the one lane merge.... Mods are a custom tune on the car I was driving... that's about it so far...
Talked to a buddy who just picked up an e46 m3 dsg and said I probably had him.... Said he wasn't impressed with the cars. Thoughts? Comments? Also on that note wondering who is going to win a quarter mile race me or his e46 m3? We have been talking smack for a couple of weeks now... May or may not have a few emissions things fall off of a 335d I know well... Just wondering if thats a game changer...Will that be the differende? He is pretty confident in his cars ability... He thinks he will spank me! I have torque on him,, he has weight, and an lsd... I might have him on crank hp... Tough to say.. Thoughts? Comments?

I've never raced a E46 M3 but my buddy has a E92 2008 335i with AFE Cold Air Intake and my E90 335d with JBD at 100% with a Drop in K&N Filter took him every time by about 2-3 Car Lengths. All boils down to the start you can't beat the Torque the Diesel makes.

Hey.. Just traded in my 2008 Audi S5 for the 335D .. You can drive the S5 like an animal.. The 4x4 helps ALOT.. My audi was (felt like) Crazy fast from 0 - 60 km/h .. never lost a race with anyone from 0 - 60 km/h.. But from 60 km/h and up it was kinda "Slow" I really liked the look of the car but i had 5 Engine lights go on in 10.000 km.. im very happy for getting rid of that lemon.

Power is only part of the game. Driving skills and testicular fortitude are the other part. Our D performs best from the 60-100 range. Not much that can hang with us on the highspeed side, in stock form.. keep it on the track for those speeds.

My thought was on the highway its was no contest... Figured from a stop he would have had me... We will see how I do against my buddy's e46m3 in the spring on the drag strip.. It would be lovely to burn such an iconic bmw on the drag strip.. Its a pretty damn fast car...

Here's my $0.02... I've owned 2x E46 M3's (Convertible and Coupe both with SMG's). The 335D is potentially faster off the line, but its harder to launch. The M3 I think will be faster at the end of the track, probably above 70 or 80 mph. But it's really going to come down to who gets off the line better. The M3 has more traction (bigger rubber and probably stickier tires), less low end torque, an LSD, and it's lighter... So good luck.
