So I'm about to go on a 2 hour drive or so and was topping off the oil and doing other minor things as one does for a long haul. Decided to fire it up and see if there was blowby and was greeted with this noise when I took the oil cap off. The car had been sitting about 13 hours so it was cold. Ambient temp was about 70. Is this a bad sound? Is it just the result of the engine being cold? I'm fully stock except for an EGR block. And I've asked this before, but is my car abnormally loud at idle? With the oil cap on, it is about the same volume constantly. The car doesn't run bad and everything feels right, but the volume seems strange. Thanks!

That's what I thought too. I have no idea how long it has been like that either. Gonna try it again on a warm engine and see if it goes away.

I also slightly attribute it to me prying around and looking for things going wrong. With the cap on you wouldn't ever hear it. And it's consumed maybe a half liter of oil in the 12k miles since I last changed the oil. So nothing excessive.

Oh thank god. Glad to hear this isn't something abnormal. The less I have to pay for repairs, the sooner I get to buy upgrades.

I've never cranked the car with an oil cap off - so....my bad on the overreaction

Wow that's so weird! I'm curious to go outside and listen to it on mine but I'm scurred of taking off the oil cap while it's running haha.
