Yeah, I’ve been trying to keep up reading on here even though I haven’t posted much in a while. I’ve seen the manual vs auto comments. I don’t personally subscribe to that. I had a manual 2019 Golf R. The manual was so disappointing I traded it in for the same thing with a DSG.

I always heard great things about the manuals in GTIs and Golf Rs. Then I owned it and couldn’t for the life of me figure what all the hype was about. It sucked. And it really didn’t help that I was coming from an SS 1LE with the amazing Tremec.

Great, thanks for confirming.
It is my guess the consoles are exactly the same in the M2, M3, and M4. They just vary depending on whether it’s a manual or auto. So the M3 with the manual transmission also doesn’t have the light, and looks a little less sophisticated as well as ours. |

I created a short video to detail the exhaust valve mod hack:

Posted this in exhaust forum but feel like it could be useful here too given the thread, super happy about this and no install:
I did the fuse trick (from one of the G42 posts) today, warmed up, sport+, checked valves open, pulled F203 and voila, sport+ sound all the time! This is honestly the best thing I did to my car so far I dont like the sport+ throttle response, its just too much and harder to modulate, the active sound in cabin is too boomy. Now I can enjoy sport mode with + flaps and efficient with + flaps too! Its awesome, I was surprised how much I could hear the exhaust now even in the cabin on efficient cruising around town, actually felt the pipse rumble under my seat. My missus wont be super happy but thats the best thing about fuse, I can put it back on long trips super easily! no need to reinstall the valve control module (or rather, 2 of them) or get some controller. |

You can try this mod to see if you like the sound of a fully opened valve exhaust, it is reversible if not or you can mod it with a valve controller as others have stated

Cant tell if its the sound in the video or not but i have the Valvetronic Valved Sport exhaust system and when set ro open, sounds way deeper and meaner (I know its upgraded exhaust and muffler and a lot more mony but just saying). The good thing, I can also easily "close" the valve to normal. I cant wait to get the downpipes installed. |

It does sound "deeper" in tone, maybe 20% louder when opened and that's with the stock rear box.. I also have high flow catted downpipes and they add a huge amount to sound, louder, more burbles... the DPs in combo with the stock Midpipe and rear pipe, plus the valves 100% open is just perfect for my needs. You'll love those DPs when they are fitted to yours! And they remove the primary restriction so will add some performance.. Last edited by M Division; 10-03-2023 at 10:42 PM.. |

yeah, when i checked visually i could see left one open and right one partly open. Tbh im not sure i would want it even more boomy, if anything id prefer more of a tone change (a bit more screamy/racy maybe).

so after disconnecting the actuators and manually opening valves i noticed something strange, its gotten cold now and im not sure if thats whats causing it or maybe its normal even with valves oprrating? For a long time after driving, long after the startup "mode", the car still is really loud when stopped but as soon as i touch throttle it quiets down, some times after spirited driving it doesnt do this but mostly it does 🤔 its not terrible but its slightly annoying to be mega loud whrn stopped but once i drive away its back to normal sound.

Mine always seems to start up with the button engaged. Is there a way to make the car start up without the 'loud' exhaust on? It might be nice to start up when desired without the louder exhaust; like after you leave your neighborhood, etc.
