Celebration Watch or Car Parts?

Would easily be a dumb question on the general forums so though I would ask all the other watch people.

Background:
Next April I will be graduating from college - I went for an Motive Power - Automotive Service Technician, and am looking to treat my self (with a pitch in from the parents).

I have been building my 08 128i for 2 years now on a highschool/college budget and have made a lot of progress, the only thing left really for exterior would be the aerodynamic (135i) rear bumper to finish my aero kit, and for interior the alcantara performance steering wheel. Engine is its own thing I do in bulk and only have a few things left. Parents agreed that they would buy me the rear bumper (unpainted, no diffuser) and the performance steering wheel as my grad gift.

Alternatively my watch background. I currently am sitting at 10 watches of varying price ranges from like $200 - $1k, a good spread covering most design and qualities. As I am looking at getting a commemorative watch for my time in college at a similar price point as the two parts I have been considering the Tag Heuer Formula 1 (hehe car reference there as well)

Which would you go with and why?

I would get a watch to celebrate a graduation. You would look at it everyday, and wear it. Good luck OP, and congratulations.

If you're celebrating a major life milestone, get a watch. In several years you won't even have the car anymore and you won't think twice about some parts you got for graduating.

I'm going to be dissenter and say bank the money in some IRA account.

If you hadn't said you already have a collection of 10 watches (which I will assume you purchased) in the price range you've specified, then I could see buying a commemorative watch celebrating your graduation. But you already have a bunch of decent watches.

To make it clear, I love watches. But I didn't start my collection of watches which is similar to price range you have now until a couple of years ago. And I have an established career and do well financially.

Sell your collection of watches and buy a keeper. Cars come and go, but I have kept almost every watch I've ever bought and will hand them down to my kids.

Same here. It's going to be a death match for my watches.

While thats a great idea, im at an age where i can't quite yet warrant spending $8k on a "forever" watch yet

First I would say save. If you’re not doing that, get a decent watch to go with a suit for interviews. That way it’s a quasi investment in looking professional. Citizens are decent entry level quartz watches and mostly somewhat traditional. If you want to go the next step up consider a Tag Monaco or Heuer 01 Skeleton.

I already am saving, and do have a couple citizens, some bulovas and a percisionist, and a few others

Look at the Seiko Sarb033 or 035. It could be worn with a suit for your first interview, or casual wear. I have a watch collection, that includes a SS Submariner, SS Datejust, few Timex ( Weekender, Expedition Sport, and Weekender Chronograph.) However, I usually wear the Seiko Sarb033. It sells for around $375-$450. It’s automatic, sapphire crystal, and 38mm. I removed the bracelet and have it on a black leather Colereb strap. I also switch out straps, and put it on a Navy Blue canvas quick realease from Barton. It’s a great starter automatic watch, made with quality.

I’m bias towards watch as well for my recommendation. But I would probably figure out what your real budget is.

I would sell your 200-1000 watches and buy 1 nice watch. Doesn’t have to be a rolex. There are a lot of great preowned watches with price points much lower. You can even get a preowned panerai base for sub $4k these days. IWC Portuguese is not too far off depending on dial. omega speed master used is $3kish. If you can go $2k-$3k, seiko sla017... they only produced like 2000 of those.
