I always thought Guards Red is one of Porsches signature colors and still popular.

I can agree with your statement now... but I think there was a time where red was "the" color to choose in any sports car. When I was 18 my first car was an 87 Mustang GT in Scarlett Red. 80s red was hot. Later it was Silver and the Blue. Now it's muted Grays and Whites it seems.

A couple of decades ago I would have and considered Torch Red for my 01 Z06. I love the Melbourne Red on the M240i... reminds me of my Scarlett Red of my GT and so sexy... like blood red. And when considering a Boxster I thought Guards Red. But it just doesn't match my personality anymore lol. Another color choice they should have added to the M2 beside PM... and even MW IMO.

Here is a link showing how popular Guard Red was/is on Porsche. I didn't realize how popular Mexico Blue was. I guess BMW was trying to make their own version of MB with ZB?

Melbourne Red on the G42 above is such a better red than Toronto. Melbourne has great depth whereas, as mentioned Toronto can look faded in direct sunlight.

Edit, added pic. TR faded out in direct sunlight.

Just went to look at the only TR car within 100 miles of me.

It’s an overcast day. Barely any metallic flake. It was nice but I’m not blown away by the color. Definitely a bit of an orange undertone… not a bad thing.

Not a fan of the TR but IF I were to go with that color, the all black rims (along with the CF roof) would be a must. Those two tone rims look horrible.

Would you get TR then?

I’m 95% sure I’m going AW with carbon roof, black wheels, red calipers, and some other carbon bits

It is unfortunate that you could not see under full sun. Maybe go back another day?

Exactly how I feel towards the jet black wheels. In my opinion they are passé. To each his own.

I have the TNM on my M240 and it has numerous different looks depending on sunlight, clouds, shade and time of day. If one were to see it first on a dark dreary day they may think its horrible. Own it and see it under all conditions, and uts amazing.

I see TR more often than not. The same for TNM.

Toronto Red versus Individual Imola Red. Imola is a great non-metallic red. Clearcoat failure was an issue for Imola when it was previously offered on the E46 M3, E46 ZHP, E39 M5, and E53 4.6/4.8is. Non-metallic reds tend to not like an excessive amount of exposure to the sun.

Edit, IR is hands down superior to TR. IR has always been in my top three of individual colors for my G87.

Funny I saw a TR X3MC at my local dealer last weekend. It was too much for my taste on a big vehicle like that. But I think it will work on the M2. It was also overcast and I went back 2 days later to see it on a sunny day, but it had been sold. I'm sticking with the understated BG.

+1 black wheel is like rolling on 4 pieces of coal. Zero contrast. Blah boring and not exciting.

My biggest thing is black wheels make the wheel gap look worse because you don't have any contrast between wheel and tire and gap. Having said that I have them on my X3 and it looks OK (maybe because of the huge gap).

I kind of think the opposite. The black will make it so that whole space is somewhat void vs the contrast wheels showing clearly how far below the fender that the wheels are. All black might create the illusion that the wheel and tire fills the whole space more entirely… wishful thinking perhaps.

Hmm… that birdseye view has me thinking I should delete the CF roof and save myself $2600.

I feel validated in my choice to not go with the carbon roof.

Just need to snag some Fiona Red M4 buckets
