Nope, haven't had the chance to drive one yet. I'm sure it's a great car but I'm not impressed by it on paper. 4200lbs and only has a 4 cylinder with 261 hp and 295lbs of torque. Plus by the time I option one out to have it the way I want, it's creeping into the 70k range. If money were no object then I'd definitely consider one, but since it most definitely is for me, I'd like some bang for my buck. A used X3M or a loaded X3M40i seems like a much better proposition from a value perspective.

Of course it will, and it will be standard on the Comp when it's released 4 months later.

I think they should fire the whole commercial department, it looks more like a coca cola ad than an M commercial... makes you wonder if they think 14 year olds are buying cars. I really wonder who are they targeting

Yes and yes

The G87 is my last hope to stay with BMW. If the M2 doesn't appeal to me after the reveal, I'll hold onto my F80 as long it takes to get a 992 allocation.

When the F8x came out, I had an emotional "had it have it" moment. Couldn't wait to get my hands on one. The current BMW generations have not created that reaction. It's very meh. I'm not spending close to $80k on a car that doesn't excite me or for a design language I "have to get used to".
This.

Except I’m starting to eye the GT4’s, a more track focused car. Even my F80 with the Ohlins can be a bit marginal on the street in some situations.

Only reason to look at 911 vs 718 as far as I’m concerned is the front axle lift, but there are aftermarket solutions for the 718 too.

Only reason to look at an M2 is the ability to carry track tires in it, and drive to the track ready for any conditions.

We’ll see shortly.

Love how the teaser teased exactly nothing about this car.

I want one but I don't know if it's worth the price of admission.. But we'll see when the official numbers drop. 😗
If we just put "$60K" into an inflation calculator and set it to "2019" i'm seeing about $68K.

Not scientific by any means, but I wouldn't expect the base price to be too much lower than that. Maybe being built in Mexico will keep costs down a little bit, so $65K could possibly be achievable.

But if they're going with the S58 from the get-go, tough to think it'll be "cheaper" (adjusted for inflation) than the F87 Comp.

Look, I recently drove the S58 engine in an X3M.

Let me tell you, it's every penny worth $68k. Even $70k.

It's a 1000% better engine than the S55 which I had for 2 years in my M3. More torque, more hp, BETTER sound. Just amazing in every way.

Now, let's just hope they put an improved 6MT in the G87, because the one in the base M3/4 right now is SLOPPY and rubbery.

And I definitely want one with a 6MT.

Lower redline though, so they can mate it to a torque converter. Not super relevant (S55 isn't making a ton of power from 7200-7600 anyway) but it still bugs me that they're making accommodations for the auto. Not really what "S" engines should be about.

...maybe the tesla tidbits tease a hypothetical G87 M2 variant that is 100% electric... there were rumors floating a little while, I always wondered what happened to Project Katharina

I'd have $100k for the iM2 6MT coupe ready to burn.

The electric test mule was a F87. EVs will never have a MT as they typically only have one ratio. The Porsche Taycan and Audi e-Tron are the only EVs I know of that have two gears. EVs weigh at least a ton more than the heaviest ICE cars. This is the end of the line, get an ICE with MT while you can before they are all sunsetted or start shopping the used market.

I think Dukec is more into fashion than motorsport.

The good thing is that the release of this video signals that the pre-launch activities are now officially under way

But yes, it’s complete garbage.

10x better? Wow.

Sloppy and rubbery manual feel? That's horrible news

It may not be cost effective and cater to 1/0.5M customers but an electric 6MT is 100% feasible.

Wow that was bad, one of the worst I've seen. I can't say I even saw a pic of a bimmer in that clip. Who are they trying to advertise to enthusiasts only, cuz if was not a car guy and didn't know what a m2 was I would totally think that was a enegry drink commercial or something of that nature.

Ok ok .... 992.67% better.

And yes, very sloppy. Not up to BMW standards. The CT5-V Blackwing 6MT (which I drove last week) is dramatically (but not quite 1000%) better.
