Just a quick question about the valve in general. Is the valve always closed in comfort/eco? Or does it still open after the car has warmed up?

It will stay closed. I believe it may open if you go full throttle though.

It only supplies the exhaust flap actuator. I've seen too many of those exhaust flap connectors corrode like crazy if they're exposed to water, so you'll be replacing the actuator and connector pins if you change your mind (or install the MPE later on).

OP/anyone - How do you get the flap to initially open before pulling the fuse? I started the car, switched to sport + and let it warm up.. but the valve never opened.

I had to turn active sound to depending on driving mode to get the valve to open. It stayed closed if it was set to reduced.

isn't active sound the interior speaker noise? I've never had problems with my valves opening in sport+

Yes, but Id prefer to see if I even like the valve open before buying that and adapter. I don't otherwise see much use for it to me

This works. I also had started the car in diagnostic mode - not sure if it mattered / will try without later.

But sure enough with "Depends on Driving Mode" selected and in Sport + the valve was opened.

So I am thinking, get it back to the valve opened state, pull fuse 203, then return ASD back to the Reduced setting -- and see if I like it or too much unnecessary noise

So seems BimmerLink not needed for any hardware method.

It will open it but you have to go into the app and open it every time you start the car

Not if you pull the fuse while it is 100% open.

I have since used Bimmercode and added the "Sporty" engine sound option. I haven't noticed if it retains it after the car is shut off, but I have it in a preset, so its easy to change.

That said, I find it has some drone when tooling around, so I will usually run in "Balanced" setting anyway. More significantly, turning ASD off is game-changing

If you just do the coding mode even if you leave it in sporty mode the valve will close on engine shutdown and cold start in the morning. Once in gear the valve will open up.

If you pull the fuse the valve will stay open 100% of the time and override any head unit adjustment like sport or reduced.

So I tried this today and while it’s kinda cool on start up and all….., after that it seem status quo. Not to mention, I took it on the interstate and tried ECO mode and because the valve was open it KILLED any fuel economy. The best I saw was 32ish. When the valve is closed I can average 38ish with peaks around 48mpg. I’m just going to wait until I buy a system so that I can have all the benefits from the engineers but make it rage when I want.

You could also use tweezers or very small needle nose pliers
There’s a fuse puller in the fuse box, you can see it in the left hand fuse box diagram in the earlier link

By the way, all this talk about BimmerCode is irrelevant for those of us that have MY23 (ID8) cars, as it is not available at the moment (and may never be if rumours are correct that ID8 has effectively been ‘locked’ from BimmerCode mods)

Looks like that was for the F30. Just checked the G42 diagram and looked in my trunk today and did not find one. Disappointing

Just got my modBMW from bulgaria and can confirm setting Engine sound to Sporty will start the car with both valves open in comfort etc.

My question is does having engine sound set to Sporty add that fake cabin noise from speakers? I had turned fake sound off before setting it to Sporty and drove around in Sport plus a bit, did not feel much difference in regards to sound in cabin? I haven't had a chance to drive around after enabling Sporty..

Any thoughts?
