Illuminated M Accents 43A

So exactly what does this 43A option get in addition to standard? Do the standard cars even have lights here?

I see two lighting displays on the door cards of the 2 series coupe. One with the tricolour M display and another with a display that looks like a continuation of ambient lighting in a single colour.

How does the above differ from standard?

I believe its just the illuminated M-colors in the door cards.

Yes, I have seen the pictures with the three M colours. There is mention that the display does some movement animation. I have also seen pictures of single colour lights, one where the lights were flashing red when the door was open to warn approaching traffic.

Is the lighting in this area standard in single colour (ie adjustable with ambient)?

It stays the tri color at all times. Can't change them.

I believe the red lighting on the door when open is something across all product lines of BMW, it's a safety feature.

You can turn this off in settings to be whatever color you want at all times.

You mean the tri color can be turned off for a single color?

If you choose the M illuminated trim, it will always stay in tri-color by the inner door handles. You can still change the color in the rest of areas.

On the standard illuminated trim, the colors change everywhere including the inner door handle.

The link below should help

Thanks. That's very helpful. Looks like it's not worth paying extra for the M colours as the standard looks better!

One of the options I skipped. It doesn't improve performance / handling / driving experience. No thanks on this occasion.

If the M colors didn’t replace the door ambient light piece, or could be changed to normal (it would be cool if had option of illuminated in M colors when in park, then shifted to normal when driving) then it would be worth it. As it’s implemented now though it’s just a gimmick that makes the ambient lighting system worse.

I've just deleted this from my order... seems absolutely pointless when the standard is better for less cost.

This was a feature I didn't really want but it came in my car and it is nice to see even more of the ///M colours we know and love and for anybody i've brought into my car at night they always comment how cool it is. I think I would have been fine without it but having it does make the car feel slightly more special. Also because most people don't have it right now because its not supposed to be in the HEA spec but I managed to get it.

It seems like I was paying the money for an M sticker. I avoided this option also.

WoW, I learned something new and beneficial with this tread: the M illuminate door trim design sucks because you lose the standard door accent lights, which is more practical.. 🤔

I just hope it's not standard on the G87 M2 and doesn't give an option of omit it.. 😗

Personally opted for the M illuminated trim and am actually very happy with it considering that it still has ambient lighting surrounding it.

This might just be me, but the standard ambient lighting pattern gave off a Mercedes vibe or something along those lines. Not sure why.

Totally fine with the way that it looks in the daytime too, but I can definitely see how it may not be for everyone.

It does look pretty good and I like the way the M logo is curved to match the door contour cutoff 👍🏻.. But losing the standard ambient lighting, from the way I remember it, is considerable to me, if I could avoid keeping it. I'm not going to lose any sleep with either one..

There is just something so appealing about the way it highlights the cabin of modern BMWs and has your interior resembling the VIP lounge of '80s Russian discotheque.. 😎

Plus, I believe the ambient door light also changes color and strobes, when the door is open, to signal to oncoming vehicles that a door is ajar. I'm not sure if the M logo version also has the same safety benefit or it's forfeited, in the name of aesthetics..

If you spec the Illuminated M Accents can you still change customise the colour of the rest of the interior lighting? I'm in two minds whether to keep it on my order.

Isn't this just the option to put the m colors in the door cards? I believe even without this option, you still get the controllable ambient lighting where the m colors would be had you taken the option

Dang I think my ambient lighting is defective. It’s know where this bright and it’s turn up to max. Maybe it’s the photo making it brighter.
