Adaptive M Suspension on the M240i?
Is the adaptive m suspension NEEDED on the M240i? Does it make a day and night difference in the ride quality? Hopefully someone can help me answer these questions because I want to know if I should get in on my 2023 M240i build. For reference I live in Canada and winters can be pretty bad the roads are not the best but they are manageable.

Is this car gonna be your daily car? Then an absolute YES.
Ride can be way more pleasant with suspension on comfort when you are simply commuting etc, especially on roads that are not well maintained... Coming from a non-adaptive suspension on my previous car, this is one of the features that each cent was worth... OFC if you are a track purist + you don't commute/your roads are like a circuit track, then not necessary at all |

Having adaptive suspension on my last 3 cars, it is a must. In the U.K. the roads are shockingly bad and it helps a lot, even when settings are in sport. Not as firm as M car, but for a daily it's a great improvement.

Has anybody here actually driven a 2022 M240x with and without the active suspension? IF not then it's hard to give a qualified opinion since all US cars come with it. Since it's optional in Canada it would really be nice to hear from someone in Canada test driving both back to back on the same roads for a true evaluation. Some cars are set up very well with stock non active suspension....others can benefit greatly....i suspect the M240 being sprung somewhat stiffer than the standard family sedan or coupe may benefit from it but i have no basis to give a qualified opinion even though i own a M240x with the active suspension.

If I am driving around in Sport/Sport Plus mode and get to a crappy road, I notice immediately and switch over to Comfort or Sport Individual with the damping set to comfort. It makes an enormous difference.

Yup exactly. I drive in LA and SF. The streets are dogshit, so i'm in comfort mode, or sport individual with comfort settings on my suspension. I only ever go full sport if the roads are smooth. If not, my ass and back hurts.

i think the OP is trying to figure out this:
where does the standard suspension sit wrt adaptive? is it softer than "comfort"? between "comfort & sport"? harder than "sport"?

Damn... All this time I thought that adaptive suspension was standard for M240s in the North American market...
Edit: Just looked and it says NOTHING about adaptive suspension. How could I have missed that? Last edited by Jashue; 07-25-2022 at 08:41 AM.. |

exactly, my point in my post was that unless someone has driven both M240xs with and without it is not possible to give a good answer. Perhaps a BMW tech somewhere may be able to answer this. Some cars have very well engineered non-adaptive suspensions that can be equal (or close) to an adaptive. One thing to keep in mind depending upon how long you may keep a car, replacement of adaptive suspensions are far more costly than non-adaptive.

I don't have it, and wish I had it! My car was showroom vehicle and therefore not built by myself. It has various other what I call essential items, but sadly missed adaptive suspension.
I can confirm the ride can be hard in the UK without it - tick the box! |
