What are your traction settings?

To the current G87 drivers, where do you have your traction set a majority of the time?

Fully on? MDM? Fully off (0-10)?

Just got my break-in period done and drive in MDM 90% of the time but looking to take it up a notch.

MDM when in town (plus Sport sus). (My M1)
Full On on the highway (plus Sport+ sus to get it more planted). Allows cruise control and prevents surprises (My M2)

If on track, you should be either full on or off, IMO, and engine never set to Sport+. MDM and Sport+ engine not a good combo for the track.

MDM. It allows enough shenanigans for the street while still having some margin of safety.

By the lack of replies I’m going to then assume most aren’t messing with it.

Fully on all the time, because I've only been city driving and it's just too damned crowded on Boston roads.

MDM is about 7 on the TC, if you need a reference point to work with.

MDM is variable, from 4 to 7, depending on how much the car is sideways.

In my E9X, I had all traction off on the track. In fact I have never driven with any traction aid on the track (includes GT4 Aston Martin, Radical SR3, F430 Challenge to name a few) rain or dry.

On the street, the E9X had huge buffer with the MDM. Unless you were intentionally drifting, never had an issue unless pushing too much but that should not be done on the street.

I took the M2 out on Tail of the Dragon and this car has a LOT of front end bite. Or it has a LOT of grip for a street car. Pushing around 60MPH on tight corner and still being intact made me realize that I am better off keeping the traction control on at all times on the street (and this car will likely not see the track).

In the past, with the E9X, setting the throttle to Sport+ made it difficult to modulate the throttle and it was more of an on/off switch. Hence left it to normal at all times.

Also, the car (E9X) was faster on anything but the stiffest setting on the track.

The M2 is very fast on and for the street!

Enjoy in good health.

Mdm 90% of the time, I'm used to cars with zero traction control (95 m3), but new to a car with so much power.

Fully on.

Been to the mountains for a total of 18+ days so far (Smokies), 7k+ miles to date.

The traction control f'n works! One of the main reasons I got an M2 was the differential.

No track days, did do a two day M school in Greer with F87 m2's, M4's, and M5's.

MDM allows some yaw and wheel spin, but stops the throttle if too much.

I found that it prevented me from correcting a drift in high speed, because I couldn’t accelerate anymore. Which was dangerous to me, as the car just wanted to stop. I’d rather have had the ability to accelerate and drift to catch the turn, instead I had to almost fully stop facing the grass and move back into the turn. So, either full traction/stability On or off for me. Off if you’re trying to drift (which I was).

I haven’t tested the traction levels yet, to compare with MDM. I understand MDM is the equivalent to traction levels 4-7, but I also believe it has stability control on (triggered by yaw rates). And I think traction off (even if at 7) won’t have any stability control, just traction.

I found DSC to be too aggressive in this car, I use my M1 config as my daily config and M2 as my spirited road config so;

Daily is my M1 config = MDM 9, chassis: comfort

Spirited driving, smooth road is my M2 config = MDM 6, chassis: sport

I selected the MDM depending on Chassis/suspension as a stiffer damper rate effects traction.

When I track I just set it up custom, eg: sport plus chassis MDM 2 or 3

ok thanks.
So does "Engine" just adjust the throttle sensitivity or does it also adjust shift points (on the ZF8)? For drifting I totally get having traction control set to zero. I have been playing with traction settings on the track (road course). At 5 & 6 I would lose power coming out of corners to different degrees. This weekend I was running at 4 and there was a little slip out on corners but I could control it with throttle.
I will continue to experiment.

When you say MDM you mean traction control off, correct? MDM doesn’t have levels to adjust.

I believe engine only adjusts the throttle sensitivity, and the shifts are another option, I believe to set shift aggressiveness (I have a manual).

Cool, thanks for sharing. I should try TC 4 as well. Let us know what you find as you experiment further.
