E90 - Summer wheels and tires advice
Hi All,
For my 2010 BMW 328 xdrive sedan, I want your suggestions/advice on summer wheels and tires. Is it worth getting BMW OEM wheels or Replicas do the job? The OEM I am interested in is the style# M313 http://www.bmwstylewheels.com/bmw/313 One shop suggested I can put the #324 on my E90: http://www.bmwstylewheels.com/bmw/324 Even though the X1 has the same chassis as E90, I am not sure if it will compromise performance? But then I also came across these non-OEM wheels which look ridiculously bad ass (i mean amazing): http://avantgardewheels.wordpress.co...-shoot-e90-m3/ Please let me know your thoughts and/or experience. thanks, Newbie |

i myself wanted 313 for mine, but decided against it as thought they were too open and didnt have big brakes on mine which kinda fill the open spaces of wheel??
from my research, you want a low pressure cast or better. try to avoid gravity cast if you can (most reps are gravity) given the poor quality of roads. but oem wheels have excellent quality, but higher price have fun getting confused!!

Unrelated, but I just gotta say my VMR V710's felt extra heavy when taking them down from the garage mezzanine, when compared to my OEM Style 158 winter wheels.

There are BMW OEM wheels (Style 313), aftermarket wheels (avantgarde, VMR, Vossen etc) and then there are replica wheels (can make a replica of any of those). You should do a cost benefit analysis on what your purpose is. It's okay to go with replicas but if your style of driving is aggressive or you track the car, you need quality. If it's everyday dailly driver and you'd be changing wheels season to season (some people do), you can also consider that.
A lot of aftermarket wheels easily bend or crack just like the replicas. I haven't seen that man OEM crack but i'm sure you'll find quite a few examples of those on the site. I have replicas on mine. That's also because I didn't want to spend a $2K+ on wheels alone. |

Thanks for your concise summary review on OEM vs aftermarket vs replica.
I would be interested in the aftermarkets. I do not race nor drive aggressively. Just on the edge in terms of how well they will perform without getting bent or cracked on regular daily driving and of course long distance once in a while. Quote:

More unrelated - My 158's are light weights even compared to my 162's! They aren't great to look at but love the performance advantage to them.
