The reviewers should shower even more praise on this car than they have. It's a substantial upgrade over the F22 M240i. I think someone coming out of the old car after having lived with the F22 for a while will better appreciate the difference.
This car is around 300lbs more with larger wheels than the current M240 and it has the latest TU engine to compensate for it. Our 0-60 times are the same when it comes to draggy so we just have to wait and see what the JB4 will look like on it I think these cars Transmission cant be flashed as of yet to. Interior is a nice upgrade from before and thank God they didn't use the beaver teeth in the front lol some people do prefer the old style gauges....can't wait to see the new M2 that's going to be my next move. all in all very nice car...wish they kept the long beach blue color and added the mild hybrid but i guess they put that on the more heavier cars to compensate for the weight.

Saw one in the flesh today. Compared to when I first saw the first gen 2 series, I was sort of well meh. It has certainly grown in size, and has a largish hood that protrudes. Got in one and dealer let me turn on. Exhaust got the burbles. Similar interior to most new bmw now, the black model they had didn't have harmon kardon. I am sure it goes, but I don't have the same wow factor I had with first seeing the 1st gen 2 series. Having owned a 228i and an OG m2, I think this is too big. Needs to loose weight.

If Porsche can be pumping out manual transmission cars, AND manuals are highly sought after in so many used cars in so many price points and brands, why for god sake can't we get gods transmission?

It's not electric yet, people will still be them, and this is yet another car crossed off the list. Very bummed about that. Hate being negative. Just want to stay with this brand and I can't.

M cars still have manual transmissions, no drama.
But I think the transmission topic deserves deeper considerations, manual gearboxes make sense when the rest of the car follows the same philosophy, on the wild and analogue 1M the manual gearbox would have been the only viable choice (as it was), an automatic gearbox wouldn't have made sense, when I drove the modern and heavy M3 G80 (both manual and auto) however I found no reasonable reasons to choose the manual gearbox due to the general "digital" feedback of the driving experience, the manual gearbox is simply not up to date with the rest of the car and I found it only a (very reasonable) romantic choice of a few die-hard purist enthusiasts.
But although it is still good that Bmw offers it for an M-car (as does Porsche), I don't really see a match for the M240i's philosophy.
Other sporty but not hardcore cars have been offered with manual transmissions (e.g. Jaguar F Type or Aston Martin V8 Vantage), and the market has rejected them severely for the same reasons.

BMW stated next year.. I prefer RWD, but didn't want to wait until model year 2023. In addition, with new inflation pressures I feel Vehicles will be priced higher next year... Time will tell

It depends on what you value. 230i will objectively handle better due to lighter weight, better weight distribution, and RWD. BMW has quietly abandoned their commitment to 50-50 weight distribution and are nose heavy these days...

I agree most would prefer M240ix, but 230i will be preferable for some who value handling dynamics over power and sound.

I wonder what the xDrive take rate was on previous gen M240i? I rarely see them in the southeast. A small, sporty coupe is the type of car where AWD is the least fitting IMO.

in the 240i it's 53-47, for me is close enough to 50:50 to notice.

While i totally understand the not being RWD, the weight arguments, really i don't know how many could do a blind-test without specs provided in some cars and notice a 53:47 vs a 50:50....

easier to say when you have the numbers beforehand but without info, doubt vast majority can say that difference...

I Am totally waiting for Canada to get the 230i xDrive.
Canada is not expected to get any RWD G42s.
The price differential is a factor, and the positive impact on steering and handling of reduced weight up front.

One thing I've learned lately is that these turbo cars launch you into oblivion with only the slightest touch of the throttle due to low end torque delivery. They are like ICE equivalents to a Tesla. In a manual you are shifting every second just to keep the car tame and under the speed limit. There's no satisfaction from "revving" the engine out like older engines especially NA. From that standpoint I'm starting to feel the manual just becomes a chore vs true driver enjoyment.

Porsche from what I understand still builds their turbo cars to revv out a bit more in power delivery. They also still have NA cars like the GT4, 4.0 GTS, GT3, etc that are exceptionally suited to high end power and manual transmission sports car buyers who want that experience will gravitate towards those cars.

With that said I'm going to start experimenting with tuning an N55 to have a more linear throttle, torque by gear, etc to see if it can be better adapted to manual enjoyment but I an sure I will still prefer my manual NA cars.
