(Who isn't) The dealer claimed it should be getting 1 allocation a month but said it could range to a year. I'm just hoping its under 9 months otherwise I might look elsewhere.
I'm guessing here, but if they are small you might get an allocation in 6 months, with delivery 3 months later. That's assuming they get 1 allocation every other month.
This is a conservative guess, because some people first on a list haven't gotten an allocation yet, and I am assuming the dealership they are with is equal size or bigger.
I have a feeling that allocations might start flowing slightly better now that the HEA's are delivered and production is now in regular mode.

I have a feeling a few members might have better info to add to this though.

Looking elsewhere: find a bigger dealership with an equal or smaller list. 9 months is actually not that bad considering some dealerships have lists near 15-16 people, and even at 2 allocations every month that's still 8 months till allocation and 3 months more for delivery. You honestly are not in a horrible position.

I put down my deposit last August/September and am hoping to take delivery late July/early August

Yeah I guess so I just really really want my car before January but My best case scenario is October. I really don't want to wait past January because im impatient and I want to get out of my 2022 honda civic before i start losing equity!

It doesn't hurt to call around and see if a slightly bigger dealership has an equal size list.

Dealership got two allocations. I was #3. Someone spec’d a car, placed a deposit, and then backed out.

That makes a lot more sense than an off-cycle allocation. Well that worked out for you. Even more congrats!

Yeah. I was not expecting to get a car until October or later - which would have been seriously frustrating living in the mountain west. This places me closer to late June/early July, I hope. Planning to call the genius line on Monday to get the exact production week.

Question for people who have gone through the build process before: Does BMW send out email updates when a car moves through the production steps or do I have to refresh myBMW Garage every day? Lol.

A good CA should send you updates. With that being said, you may have to check yourself...and I bet you will wind up checking often to see if you have gotten to the next stage.

AFAIK, BMW doesn't directly notify you or your CA during every step. One or both of you has to check periodically. Kinda sucks.

Correct but main steps...VIN, start of build, completion, on ship and at port. Then of course, D Day...ready for pickup.

I live in the Minneapolis area and am on two waiting lists at the local dealers. #12 on one list, #15 on the other. The latter dealer called me yesterday to let me know that i dropped from #15 down to #9 after the first month's allocation. Not sure how many cars they were allocated vs folks just backing out from the list. The sales guy still thinks of the remaining 9 in line that some are not legit buyers so shouldn't have to wait for 8 allocations before me. He also thinks I should get an allocation in 3 to 4 months.

I'm planning to put my current car for sale in a couple weeks (19' M240i) to make way for the M2. Hopefully I am not waiting more than a few months and especially after planning to rip in my car this summer after the long-ass winter.

If he’s got 9 genuine buyers in front of you, I’d hold on to the 240i for a while, at least until there’s a better feel for how quickly allocations are coming out.

3-4 months seems optimistic.
