Questioning the quality control because the vehicle is built in Mexico is absolutely the most racist thing.

Some might argue that BMW is exploiting cheap labour in Mexico to earn more profits.I’m sure the quality of the product will be very good. It’s a brand new plant. https://www.npr.org/2018/10/17/65780...-mexican-wages https://www.forbes.com/sites/frederi...h=4df84d016b78 |

Everyone's seen the Frank Stephenson review of the new 2 series?
I understand it's just one man's opinion, but given the vehicles he's had a hand in designing, he offers an interesting perspective: |

Take a look at America's sports car, MUSTANG $30k-$70k (panel gaps) (orange peel) and crickety clanks after 20k miles Full disclosure: dad was born in Akron, OH. He felt the gold old boys would mess up Toyota's reputation for quality In short, he was wrong the manufacturer's location means almost nothing, toyota's rep is as good as ever but I still want my luxury wrist watch's made in Switzerland, performance cars from Germany |

Mexico plant is state of the art & all robots and workers were developed & trained by German workers. I have zero issue with this, and cheaper labor will hopefully convince BMW to keep a lid on increase prices. They are over-priced vs what % they sell for on average 3-4 years later vs many other vehicles

yes one man's opinion but he was a Designer that obviously knows lot more than any of us. That said, I like the vehicle overall but admit some of the multiple angles on front & back end don't make lot of sense or have a purpose. But the vehicle has a lot more technology and safety features vs. out-going Generation. Was time for a change and we can always argue over details with any design

When I see the retail price of the M240i, I really have the impression that some of the lower cost is indeed translated into a moderated price. I cannot find any comparable car at this price point. I admit that I exclude the US pony cars then. Last edited by KoenG; 09-05-2021 at 04:07 PM.. |

I think BMW has all their top guys now at this factory from Germany including top of the line and state of the art machinery from Germany as well. I think they have locals doing basic stuff off the assembly line. Shipping times for logistics to the US would drop a lot too for BMW. I believe duties would drop too. At the end of the day though in all honesty of given the choice or option I would gladly pay $2-3K more to get my BMW out of Germany over Mexico. If you want to know if it is built well or not open and close doors. Smart people will know if it was built well or not based off of how the doors close. One of a few things to look at to test quality control of how car was built.

No disrespect but "Born in Mexico for the global market" is not necessarily a good headliner statement. Understand that BMW and most other manufacturers produce cars in various global locations to achieve efficiencies. Being a German brand is a bit diluted now like "Designed by Apple in California and Made in China".
I am really glad that all my BMWs till date have come from Germany and hope it remains that way! |

The other remarkable thing about this design is that it's practically BMW's entry level vehicle(yes there's the X1, X2, 2-series GC), but looks much more premium than it's class.
Whereas the F22 looked its price, this comes across as a more expensive vehicle. |

Agree some folks who don’t like it have to convince others & post negative things. Does look like a blast to drive and is a different design to move BMW into
the future. And has normal sized Kidney Grille. And the tech goodies are big improvement |

The new 2-series is such a huge improvement over the last generation bulbous 2er and better looking than any other BMW currently made.
No manual and made in Mexico sucks—but at least they got the styling right.

With that being said, I don’t like the headlights (why just toss the corona rimgs side?), the tails are too stubby if that makes sense, and there are competing shapes and angles that just don’t look very good. Hopefully the M2 is sorted better.
