Rear Upper Control Arm disconnected and won't line up again
So basically as I was driving down a road, I drove over a rough patch with a lot of bumps with the right side of my car. Right after, I heard nuts and bolts clanging underneath the car and fall onto the road. I pulled over and couldn't visually see anything wrong with the car, and couldn't find anything that fell onto the road as it was dark. I decided to drive home and could tell something was wrong as the rear end felt very unstable over the slightest of imperfections, so I carefully drove slowly about 5 miles home to check out what happened.
Once I jacked up the car I could see that the rear passenger wheel had a lot of positive camber, and after removing the wheel and looking closely, the rear upper control arm had disconnected completely from the wheel hub (I don't even know how thats possible) I bought a replacement bolt and also a nylock nut just in case but I can't get the arm to line up at all. I've tried jacking it up completely, adjust the camber and toe eccentric bolts, and this is the closest I can get. Any other tips onto getting this to line up? I think that driving with that arm disconnected may have caused the other arms to shift? As far as I know you can only adjust the toe and camber eccentric bolts to adjust alignment. Thanks |

The arm could be bent. But have you tried disconnecting the sway bar end links? Also what's rubbing on your shocks? It should be pretty straight forward https://www.pelicanparts.com/BMW/tec...eplacement.htm

Haha I went through this with my lower control arm when I installed my coilovers. I don't think anything's bent, mine was about that far off too, it all lined up eventually, just took a lot of force in a couple directions at once and was real hard to get the bolt in straight.

Anything you can use to get more leverage will help. Maybe loosen the other arms to get some ‘slop’ to work with? Either way, it’s best to get an alignment after getting it back together. Good luck! |

Thanks guys, it seemed that two of the other arms were kind of in a bind/under tension when I compared them to the arms from the other side, so I loosened those bolts and retightened which let me finally line up that last arm. Possibly happened due to driving with the missing arm? Anyways thanks for the help
