Transmission issue with power

I just bought a 2011 BMW E93 and there is a slight transmission problem. When I give it gas from a stop it goes just fine but when I give more then a quarter throttle or enough for it to downshift I get an transmission error on my Idrive screen telling me reduced power. If I pull over and restart the car it goes away I just need to be careful from there. Any ideas?
