True Rear Coilovers
I've been looking high and low for answers about the possibility of converting the rear to coilovers but no consistent answers have appeared, or any answers within the last decade.
The answer is either "its fine" or "your rear subframe will explode". For the purposes of fast road use, looks and light track use, are rear coilovers possible without wrecking your car? (And if not, what is a good kit that retains the stock system but allows height adjustment?) |

I've seen a poster on the BabyBMW forum running true coilovers at the rear on an E82 135i.
Both the thread on his 130i and 135i are well worth reading! https://www.babybmw.net/threads/jonw...&sortby=oldest |

well, your subframe wouldn’t explode because “real coilover converison” nowhere attaches to the subframe it attaches to the lower control arm and the body.
i would be more worried about the forces on the shock “tower” in the rear. |

Yeh I heard horror stories back when I had a 350z of people’s strut towers bursting up through the boot trim on coilovers, just wanted to know what the deal was with e92s |
