Thumbs down Very upset with JL Motoring

Hi guys,
Just had to share my recent experience with JL Motoring with you. So a few months ago I decided to finally pull the trigger on some exterior aero parts that I'd been wanting for quite some time. I ordered the following two pieces from JL Motoring:

http://www.jl-motoring.com/BMW_E92_C...p/bmts9207.htm

And

http://www.jl-motoring.com/BMW_E92_E...p/bmfs9207.htm

I placed the order through the website and paid via PayPal on 3/30/12. I got an email from JL Motoring to verify that I had ordered the correct parts for my car and I confirmed that indeed I did. That email was dated 4/4/12. After I placed the order, I went out of town for two weeks. When I got back home, only the front lip spoiler was waiting for me. The rear had yet to show up. So on 4/17/12 I sent JL Motoring another email asking where my rear spoiler was. Here's the response I got:

Quote:
Hi Dan
Sorry, we cannot find the tracking number for the trunk spoiler package. The package was shipped by UPS, not TNT express. If you do not receive the package in 2-3 days, please let us know. We shipped the spoilers separately because we do not want the spoilers to get damaged.

Sorry for any inconvenience
James
What?!?! Can't find the tracking number?!?!

I'm just a bit frustrated by this point. I wait the 2-3 days like they said and still no spoiler. I send another email asking where my spoiler is and here's the response:

Quote:
Hey Dan
We have the trunk spoiler in stock, but it can not pass our quality check because he surface of the spoiler can not pass our quality check. The attachments are the pictures of the spoiler. If you think it is ok, we will ship out the spoiler asap. Or you can change the order to the other style spoilers, no extra charge

ACS style

Performance style

Sorry for any inconvenience
James
Apparently the clear coat wasn't smooth and that's why it didn't pass their "quality control".

At this point I tell them to fix the clear coat and send me the spoiler that I ordered and paid for over a month ago by now.

I finally get a tracking number on 5/1/12. When the spoiler finally arrived there were more issues.

According to JL Motoring's website, the spoilers are supposed to be:

- High quality real carbon fiber with clear coat
- UV protected
- Professionally crafted
- 100% fitment

First, there's only one layer of carbon fiber on top. The spoilers are made out of fiberglass. That's fine, but don't claim they are "high quality real carbon fiber" when they are clearly not.

And 100% fitment?? Not even close. You can see just how well it fits in these pictures: (Spoiler is not attached, just sitting on trunk lid)

Sorry for ranting on so long, but JL Motoring has been completely unresponsive. Once I got the spoiler in hand and figured out that it didn't fit properly, I was already WAY past the 45 day limit that PayPal gives you to file a dispute. I've sent an email to JL Motoring asking about a way to return the spoiler for a refund, but never got an answer. Top-notch. If you value customer service and honesty, stay away from these clowns.

UPDATE (7/11/12): PM received from JL Motoring and they are asking for more pictures of the fitment issues and have also stated that they will do a full refund or exchange. I will continue to update this first post with any news.

UPDATE 2 (7/17/12): Received another PM from JL Motoring asking me to

OK, fine. I had a friend "push it down a little bit" and here are the amazing results:

I have sent these same pictures to JL Motoring today and asked for a full refund. I will keep updating this thread as the process progresses.

UPDATE 3 (7/19/12) I received a UPS return label for the rear spoiler today.

I remember when I ordered my diffuser from JL, the quality was jaw-droppingly BAD. Fitment was off, matte black finish was blotchy and had small holes/indents in them, pretty much a nightmare.

To top it off, I had to compile a collage with close-ups of all the defects and threaten to post that on the forum to get a refund from them.

I did file a dispute. Since I'm past the 45 days there's not much they can do, but the dispute will be "on his record". oooooooo scary lol

I have heard some bad things about them as well.
"100% fitment" is pure BS

Only aftermarket place I'd get carbon bits for my car is Tekarbon. Anyone else and you're just "hoping" for the best...

I've had my fair share of bad experiences with cosmetic parts on this and many other platforms. (Not from this company). I have experienced situations where pushing down on the wing does help with fitment but it doesn't seem like that will be enough in your situation. Good luck with a resolution. I've almost given up with the cosmetics stuff unless its from an extremely high end reputable company willing to back up their products.

Thanks for the support guys. Yeah, the front spoiler isn't off nearly as bad as the rear, but it's not perfect either. I've been so busy that I haven't had time to properly test fit the front yet, but I have taken some measurements and it's definitely not "100% fitment" lol.

My experience is really similar to OP's. I bought front carbon fiber splitters from JL Motoring Jul 30, and tried to fit it on my car August 4th. The passenger side splitter's mold was so poorly done, that the inner edge came straight up into the front bumper, preventing it from sitting flush and also chipping the paint at the point of contact.

JL's response was very much the same as above, "it's really flexible, just push it down and put painter's tape to hold it". What he doesn't understand, after providing him with 11 different pictures, is that it's impossible to just push it down. Up to this point I was a bit frustrated with his responses, but I still kept my calm - as I requested for a replacement for the passenger side only. August 10th he said he would send me a replacement, as of right now, I have no replacement nor have I received any communication in the past 12 days.

I just opened up a dispute on paypal, as I don't see him resolving this anytime soon. He was extremely responsive when I was inquiring about the splitters (0-2 hours), but the change in responsiveness (4+ days) really shows that he only cares about the quick sale and not the customer's satisfaction.

This is not saying that everyone will have the same experiences as myself and OP, but if you are unlucky enough to get a poor fitting product, it won't be resolved cleanly. NOT a recommended vendor.

UPDATE: I had been out of town a lot of the past month and a half and didn't have time to deal with this. I sent and email and a PM to JL Motoring today to verify that the return shipping label he sent me a few weeks ago is still valid. Once I have confirmation I will send it back and hopefully get my refund. Keep you posted.

Jl has been great. My diffuser came with a crack on the tab and it became a chip where it wouldn't install properly onto my rear bumper and James is in the process of sending out a replacement. James is a great guy to work with. And his products are great aswell
