How long does it usually take from "Ready to Transport" to "Dealership"?

Hey All,

New to the bimmer world but I recently ordered an M240i xdrive at the dealership back in December 2022. At that time, the car was already built and are now still sitting at "Ready for Transport" status (so around 30 days have passed). Does anyone have a guesstimate how much longer do I still have to wait?

Wholly dependent on shipping and logistics schedules to your location I'd imagine, so no single answer really.

For reference, I'm in Scotland UK, and I was:

5th Dec 22: Production Begins
10th Dec 22: Ready for Transport
16th Dec 22: Loaded onto the Horizon Highway ship
17th Jan 23: Arrived into destination port in the UK (after stops in US, Germany, & Belgium)

I'm being told it should be ready to collect next week, and I expect it is arriving at the dealership today/tomorrow.

Depends on when the car gets loaded onto a ship in Mexico and leaves port. After that, typically 2-3 weeks, barring any unforeseen delays.

Wow, what great efficiency in UK! Here in the States where all M240i are built in Mexico, not sure how delayed they are in transporting.

When they get shipped to the UK they are put on these really, really fast speedboats, the US only gets these slow moving carriers.

Mine shipped really fast from "ready to transport" to arrival at US port.
What ya have to remember when the vehicle is "ready to transport" there may not be a ship ready to take it, and it could be a wait period for a ship to arrive, these don't run like NY taxi's, Plus they are gonna try to time the ships arrival period for a full load. The timing is just the luck of the draw in terms of how long. Then also to get to your dealer ya need overland transport from the arrival terminal...seems to me mine took as long for overland transport as it did for the ship carrier.
But to your original question...sitting ready to transport for 30 days seems excessive. It should have moved by now.

Mine completed production around Oct 26th and didn't make it to the dealership until Dec 12th. Waiting to get on a ship took a while but after it arrived in port in the US things sped up for me.

I called BMW Genius today regarding the status since it has been stuck in "ready for transport" status for 40+ days now. They told me there has been a recall on the passenger side airbag and obviously they are waiting for parts to have it fixed before they can get delivered? Has anyone else heard of this recall?

Yup there’s a current ongoing stop sale.

Yup. Was supposed to pick the car up 10 days ago and found out the day of the stop sale. It’s tough cause a) don’t have a car rn b) have no idea when recall will be fixed

I ordered my car December 22 also, it finished production on 1/31/23 and it’s been ready for transport since then every one I call at BMW genius says that it shouldn’t take too long, and all the forums say that was the step that took the least time but its almost been a week for me and I’m getting impatient.

I just learned that there has been a recall on airbags on January 16, 2023 that's affecting 2 series and M2 in general. Since your car was built on 1/31/23, hopefully won't have this issue (or you can check your vin on BMW recall website to confirm). No one knows how long this fix will be at the moment..

That’s what it shows me, I am not sure what to do anymore since genius has no clue what’s happening and the salesmen doesn’t either.

Mine shows the rear seat air bag cover needs to be replaced, but there's no remedy available as of now... No one is ever sitting back there so, maybe when I go in for my first service, they'll be able to complete that repair.

You probably have a few more weeks to be waiting, if not months. There's a shipping/logistics problem at the current port that is primarily the issue (outside of the stop sale) from what I've heard from Genius/my CA. I've been in 'Ready for Transport' since 12/27 and finished with production since 12/19 with an originally expected date of delivery sometime in January.

Might be March with how things are looking.

Called genius, they confirmed the car is not effected by the airbag recall, but there’s delay and they don’t know why.

Granted my experience was several months ago; however, I was "ready for transport" for nearly three weeks. Never had any updates until one day, I'm on a ship and changed to "In transit"! I did not call anyone; just waited patiently since it was a logistics issue back them.

As many have stated, it is worth the wait!

Give it a check and see if yours updated. I've been moved to 'Awaiting carrier assignment', so looks like it might be moving along again.
