BMW 325i engine sound on idle
Hi guys,
I am about to buy this nice BMW 325i E53 engine 2010. I am bit worried by the engine sound though. Here's the video with sound: Do you describe this as normal for this car? I've read about "valve clicking" and seems to make sense, but not sure if this is too loud to be an issue? Any help would be appreciated ! Simon |

It's hard to tell from the video as sometimes they can make it sound a lot louder than it actually is. The N53 injectors are quite clicky when the engines running anyway - most are that I work on including my own.
If you're buying from a dealer/trader I'd be inclined to make sure you've got a warranty that covers everything (up to and including injectors, high pressure fuel pump, etc), then get it booked in at BMW or a specialist for a check over

That's good, the injectors can be somewhat of a pain on these engines.
If the High pressure fuel pump has been replaced too that's even better news but failures of these aren't as common as injectors. With the clicking noise, whilst it's on idle/tickover you'll hear the injectors clicking away, but when you rev it up you should notice that sound stops or goes much quieter. Other than that I can't think of many things to say keep an eye out for - rocker cover leaks, leaks between the oil filter housing, the normal bits and bobs.

You're right - the clicking sound goes away when revving: Is that what you meant? Other than that no leaks whatsoever on the engine, though it might have been cleaned so hard to say. |

The engine noise in both video clips is absolutley normal for an N53. As has been said, the piezo injectors/direct injection are responsible for the diesel-like sound.
