Realistic 2024 m2 build time?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I’m sure this topic has been mentioned before but I want some recent experience on how long it would take to build a 2024 m2. I’ve asked several dealerships in America how long would it would take and some are saying over a year and some are saying 2-5 months. Which of these times are more accurate? Realistically how long would I be waiting?

Yes, if you search there are a number of posts that discuss this. It most likely will be no different than a MY23. Of course, they key point in determining time is once you receive your allocation/production number.

Check this thread for timing people have faced or are facing.

Not sure what you mean exactly.

Are you talking about the wait from deposit --- allocation --- production --- delivery ??

Or

Just how long it takes from start of production to delivery?

For clarification, I would like to know how long the process would take from the deposit to the delivery

That depends on the time to allocation. Production time would probably be 3.5-4ish months, but you might be waiting 2 months to 1 year for an allocation depending on the wait list at the specific dealership.

Literally nobody on here can tell you that with any accuracy.

I agree, my response was complete guestimation, I hope that was obvious by how wide of a variance the timeframe had.

Heck, it took almost a year for deposit to delivery for myself, and longer for others.

Actually, production time is on average rather quick. Its all the unknown bs waiting before production starts and after production is complete to getting on the ship that makes the time add up to frustration levels. If the process was smoother and quicker from ready for transport to ship leaving port, the shipping time would seem like nothing.

Of course, dont forget about any additional delays for port installed items.

All of the above assumes no issues, campaigns, recalls or part availability delays.

That was all pretty much my point, my car took 3 days to produce, but my spot in line took months, along with a month or 2 for transportation.
The spot in line is the biggest variable at this point.

What we are all saying here is that the ALLOCATION is what matters.

BMW has to grant an 'allocation' to the dealer. Until the dealer has that, any promise they make means nothing. There's nothing they can do.

But if a dealer has an allocation in hand, AND they are willing to use it for your car, then the timelines can be estimated reasonably well. (The allocation includes a reasonably precise start-of-production date.)

Dealers can kinda sorta guess when they'll get allocations based on previous history with BMW. Some dealers get more allocations than others based on sales volume, etc. But there are no real guarantees.

So to clarify a bit.

When a dealer says "2 year wait", they compute that based on the length their own waitlist and their estimate of how fast they'll be granted allocs from BMW.

So if, say, a dealer gets a G87 alloc from BMW once every 3 months or so, and you are 3rd on that dealer's waitlist, you'll likely get your ALLOC in about 9 months.

The alloc will come with a build week, and you can use that date to get a good estimate. ONLY THEN can you get a solid estimate.

If you want to maximize your odds, then put refundable deposits down with lots of dealers. The first one to get an alloc is the one that gets your money.

You could also pay the dealer more ADM to move you to the front of the waitlist, but I don't recommend it.

2024 M2 Purchase delivery timelines

I live in Toronto Canada and wanted to share my recent experience regarding timing. I placed the order/paid a deposit on July 17th for a 2024 M2. On Sept 21st I received confirmation of delivery to my local dealership for Oct 17th (my sales rep tells me he is confident in the delivery date...fingers crossed). 3 months. Can't wait!

Luckily in Canada, delivery dates have been more reliable than elsewhere as we have cars transported by rail from Mexico.

When I got my allocation in March, the dealer said production would be late Apr / early May and delivery late June. In the end production was complete on 26th Apr and delivery was 10th of June.

Yes, the line (wait list) will determine how long you have to wait, so it is really location dependent.
Here in east coast, I have a allocation immediately when I put down my deposit last month (August) , and I was told they car will be built in Oct and be here for pickup around December or January. So the wait will be about 4-5 months....

Since then I told my dealer to remove me from the allocation, because I don't want to take delivery in the middle of winter.
I will wait for the next allocation and take delivery in March/April timeframe, and I have not received a new allocation yet. But the dealer will let me know when the next allocation is opened up.

I am having the same issue - a few dealers here in the northeast with an MSRP allocation but I really don't want the car in Feb. Having a hard time deciding when to pull the trigger as I dont want it in Jan or Feb, but I also don't want it next Sept and miss th3e whole year

I would recommend talk to your dealer and let them help you control your delivery date. As long as your (refundable) deposit is in, and you are in line for the next available allocation, you and your dealer will have some control.

If you wait for next March to put down your deposit, then it will depend on number of people in front of you, which is out of your control!

but I also read many people back out from their allocation, so maybe getting an allocation will be easier next year...

Interesting - there is a huge push right now for NONrefundable deposits... And a number of cars showing up "available" One dealer has 2 or 3 they claim are not spoken for... Perhaps there have been a lot of cancellations and tha'ts why the push for a non refundable deposit. Has been the same at the biggest 5 dealers I've talked to right now, some as much as $5k nonrefundable

I have not heard of non-refundable deposit in my area yet.
I hope it will not happened here!!!
Just to be clear, the deposit here is refundable until the allocation is committed.
