This video answers a lot. Depends on how you drive and many other variables (frequent short trips, long time idling, etc). The car itself does a good job calculating your oil life based on idle time and other driving factors.

IMO, definitely would not wait for 10k miles. I drive hard anyways so I'm going to stick with about 5 - 6k mile intervals after break-in with high quality oil that meets BMW's spec. If you're just leasing or planning on trading in the next few years, then you can wait 10k miles…and just pass the long term issues onto the next owner(s) lol

I do 5k miles. It might be a little bit of overkill but gives me peace of mind. And also easy to remember change intervals.

Interesting. I'm seeing something very different on my app in Canada. I certainly wouldn't wait until 30k km for the first oil change!

I normally do my changes every 5K (km) Will be interesting to see if the onboard computer changes the intervals depending on my driving style

Every 5K for me...AND, I am changing weight during Summer to 5-30, back to 0-20 for Winter. I'll end up having a climate change (LOL) standard than a mileage standard as I don't drive that much.

However, to answer your question...5K, IMO.

I just pulled out the factory oil at my first 5000-mile change and less than 5L came out! Other sources say over 5L, specifically 5.2L to 5.3L. Is BMW that cheap, or did my B48 burn off that much oil???

She's topped off now.

I think I read a reply in a different thread to this problem that some oil stays in the engine and oil cooler even when you drain it. You never get rid of all it during a change.

Next time I would check the oil level before the change to see if it registering lower before draining

Have you decided what oil you'll use for your changes?

Also curious to know what the Australian owner's manual states for oil weight.
