Winter/Summer wheels & tires setup

I have a Thundernight Metallic, square setup with the 19" 791M wheels with all-season run-flat tire. I'm not in love with the look or the dynamics of the setup. I'm in Wisconsin and drive the car in the winter, so it slides around in the cold and drives poorly in the Summer. I run dedicated winter tires and wheels on my other cars and I want to do the same here but because of limited wheel options its not as easy to plug and play on the major sites.

In the summer I do back road driving on the weekends and a couple of trips to Road America for cruises on the track, nothing crazy. I'm looking at non-bmw wheels as I don't want to pay that premium. I also drive it through some snow in the winter so I don't want to lower the car.

What would be thoughts on the best options? Keep the current wheels and use them as winters with dedicated snow tires? Go to a staggered setup for summer with summer tires? Go to 20" instead of 19" for the summer? I'm not great at visualizing these things so thoughts on what colors go with the purple/shadowline package...would bronze be a good option?

Thanks for the help.

I'm in Chicago, so similar weather. I also plan to take it to the track and well as some ski hills in WI. Thus, a winter set is a must imo.

If you don't have the wheel & tire package with the bigger brakes, you can go 18's in the winter if you choose, or stick with 19's. I personally think 20s look too big for summer (and the tires are much more expensive).

I think the 797M's or you 791M's in a square setup will work for winter an the 893M staggered setup for the summer.

I have the ZTK package with the larger tires and brakes and ordered 18" wheels from TireRack for winter and they fit! I used the 22' G20 M340 xdrive in the configurator. 18"x8 MSW wheels with Pirelli Sottozero 3 225s square. They drive very nicely.

For the OP; I would probably just use the stock square wheels and buy snow tires for them. It's considered a good idea to go down a diameter for snows, but not a big deal if you don't.

I'm not I'm love with the ZTK wheels (893s?).
I think they are kind of blah looking.
13mm spacers helped the look.
I ordered it primarily for the increase in cooling, brakes, and top speed.
The Michelin PS4S tires are ok performance wise, but seem stretched to fit wider tires. I like a taller, beefier sidewall. If I have to replace them I may go up a size 245/255 to 255/265.

If I was considering a new performance set, I would wait to see what APEX wheels is developing for this car. I love the way they looked on my previous m240 and would definitely consider a track oriented 18" set from them.

Does anyone know if this will this fit on the m240i with ZTK and is a good set?

Same boat here too.
The ZTK brakes, and also the M performance Brakes (not the ones you order with the car) will work with 18" diameter wheels, however you do need to be sure the front of the caliper will clear your chosen aftermarket wheels.

Hpirx Yes also like to get 18"s for a summer performance setup and for a slightly beefier sidewall.

Good call! A saw the APEX group buy went live yesterday and signed up for those wheels in Anthracite. I'll be getting some snow tires for the OEM wheels. Now to decide on tires...

If that's the 898 M Performance winter set for the M340i it totally fits the M240i as well, I have it and drove on them all last winter. The web site may not list it but the computer at the dealer shows it as compatible (I had them check the ETK).

I don't have ZTK but I doubt that makes a difference, they're 19" so the rotors should clear. Dealer parts desk can confirm.

Which MSW wheels did you actually get? There are a lot on TireRack.

Sorry, they are in storage now, or I would take a picture. I don't recall the model number.

It's all good. I think when I end up getting them, I'm just going to get 19" wheels as to not have to worry about fit issues.

I ordered mine with the "non" run flat performance tires and will keep that as the summer option. Planning to go at least "-1" on a 225/18 square set up for winter (on some cheaper wheels) via TireRack etc.

As for size, maybe get a good set of staggered wheels/tires for summer, and limp along the existing run flats for winters. Obviously if you can't live with them, you can't live with them...but given our winters suck the life out of us here in WI (I'm in MKE), I'm not doing much spirited driving that time of year.

I think bronze would be pretty groovy with purple...

So I've revisited this and I don't even know how you got 18" wheels to show up as an option. Did you select the Cooling and High Performance Tire Package on Tirerack? If I do that, all I see are 19" options or larger.

I realize you said they are in storage but don't you have an order email or can check or can't you log back into the site to see what you actually got? It would help out a lot of us.

Non ZTK here. Waiting to hear back from my dealer, but they said they have 17" wheels on 225/50r17 tires that should fit non-ZTK.

Big fat sidewalls, should be good if they can get confirmation from BMW Canada that they will fit..

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Vp5...ew?usp=sharing

$2350 as well for the set, which isn't bad AT ALL for OEM.

I reached out to BMw Canada directly and they referred me back to the dealership since it was a “technical” question. Not very useful since the dealerships only recommend the OEM winter wheels, although those seem to be 18”, but the offset is not available. Like you, I’m doubting Hprix’s response as well since there is no 18” setup on tire rack with tire and cooling package (ZTK)… not convinced. I tried a set of 18” wheels and the technician said they couldnt even put them on they were blocked by the calipers.

I would be all over these if I could see a confirmed fitment on non ZTK cars.
