Love the looks of the new Kia Soul! Do they also make a hybrid version?

There's nothing wrong with an M240. If I didn't want a manual so bad I would get the M240 in Thundernight Metallic and be happy.

There's nothing other than some body panels that are new in this car. The M2 is a parts bin throw together of tried and true components. The chassis, drive train, iDrive system, all have been around and work great. Don't worry about this being a first run car.

E46 size which is great compared to the current M4. Can’t wait to drive it.
Second photo of red with sunroof/bicolor wheels - my order!

I don’t want a manual at all. I would get an automatic M2. I ordered the M240 in Brooklyn grey with tacroa red leather. I dont mind that purple but it’s not for me.

Just curious when you ordered the M240 and what you were told as far as timing for allocation. When I ordered mine last year, and from what I have been told, allocations down here are just as stingy with wait times almost that of the M2.

Mark my words, you'll regret this decision big time in a year or two. I sure as hell did with my 2018 M240 over waiting a year for the M2C.

You just need to be patient and persistent. I have learned these skills through my many years of lease hacking. Several dealers wanted $5K deposit on an M240 without having an allocation. They claim if they have an order they are more likely to get an allocation. While this seems to make sense logically I have no idea if that is how it really works. I refused the amount and I refused to give a deposit without a confirmed allocation. I would implore you to do the same. I called every dealer in the country that had a car inbound. Every time they where already sold until I finally found one that the customer had backed out and the order could still be modified. They wanted a $5K deposit I got them down to $1K. I even found an M2 that I could have bought on the spot with no markup. It was a customer order and they backed out but it was manual “Z” blue and the only option it had was carbon roof. While I don’t mind the color I only want an automatic.

Anyway returning to our scheduled program. If you are serious about getting a car you need to dedicate some time every day to making calls. The car I found had already been submitted for an order by the dealer but the build week isn’t until mid May so I was able to modify it. I got Brooklyn Grey over Tacora Red with all options accept for cooling and tire. I have a new set of Mich 4s I am taking off my M340 and I heard the additional cooling is not noticed anyway.
I hope that helps I am happy to help further if you want to PM me.

Doubtfull, I went throught the same thing with M3/M340 a few a years ago and I have been driving an M340 for 3 years and LOVE the car. The “M light” cars are the perfect Goldilocks cars for me. The only place 99% of people will notice a difference is on the track and I hawill never track it. I am in my mid forties and have small kids I need to put in the back. Also this isnt a lifelong decision. These cars hold thier values very well. If I really like the M2 I can trade it in.

Furthermore the delta between the “M light” models and the full M cars where much bigger back then. BMW has really upped the game on the “M light” cars.

Have you driven a car with an S58 engine? A lot of people here will totally disagree with this opinion on the jump from 340 to M3, or 240 to M2.

As far as I can tell, the only place this becomes remotely close is with the V8 cars. Even then...man you're on shaky ground with this one...

S58 is going to go down in history as one of the greatest engines BMW ever produced.

I thought this was already reserved for the "legendary" B58
B58 has all the traits of the S58 + better fuel consumption if needed

Yes, I have driven several S58 cars. I didn’t say there wasn’t a considerable delta. I said most people wouldn’t notice that delta aside from on the track. Look, I am not to trying to convince anyone or shit on the M2, I am sure it will be an insane car. There is a reason they sell more than one flavor of ice cream. For me the M240 will be plenty. I am fine with disagreeing with a lot of people on here. I would never drive a manual car, I know that is the opposite of most people on here as well. Just offering an alternative POV.

That's fair - point taken.

This quote though, I'm not sure about.

"Furthermore the delta between the “M light” models and the full M cars where much bigger back then. BMW has really upped the game on the “M light” cars."

Like they say, a high tide raises all ships. The BMW performance high tide is on a roll lately, but IMO the delta is the same.

I think what you were getting at is that everything just moved up several notches, and for 90% of BMW buyers they will not be able to extract that last 20% of the vehicle performance that requires a track, so the M light cars make a lot of sense for a lot of people - right?

Let’s call spade a spade. No one in their right mind will want to frequently track a G87 as she is a fairly hefty pig. If one is a track rat, the G87 will not be the favored weapon of choice.

M "light"

I hated when BMW started the M "light" thing! They knew that purchasers who wont or cant commit to what a full M car is but want that M status could buy in. That's ok but next thing you know those same people are telling you why full M cars are no longer necessary because they are getting 90% of what an M car is...yeah ok. Keep believing that. I wont even explain the difference.

It really amazes me how many people on this forum can’t fathom someone using a car in different way or liking different thigns from them. Did it ever occur to you that I actually prefer the M light version? I couldn’t care less about the “M status” I choose a car based on my needs and wants. I didn’t pick the M240 because I couldn’t afford the M2 I picked it becausse for my needs it is a better car for me. You are making a strawman argument. I never said M cars aren’t necessary and I never said they the M light cars where 90% of an M car. I said 99% of people wouldn’t notice the difference between the M240 and the M2 aside from on a track, and that is a fact., Like I said, there is a reason they sell more than one flavor of ice cream. People want different things. You are assuming I am ignorant of the facts and I must not know what I am talking about if I dont prefer the full M car. Have you ever considered the fact that people have different needs and wants in a car?
