Wishful thinking!

Even if an M240 could beat an M2 from stop light to stop light. I would still rather have a manual M2 than an auto M240. I'm not racing from stop light to stop light. I want a manual full M car on a back country road upshifting and downshifting between 2nd and 3rd gear. That's where its at!!!
I don't care about a TRACK either. That is just a plus.

I think 240i owners have a case of wishful thinking.

quoted times are different than real world times.

I'd be mildly surprised if the RWD M2 can hit 0-60 in 3.6 seconds like the xDrive m240i does

I think closest comparison would be the 2021 M3 Competition. RWD, 8sp Auto, 3700lbs, 503hp... 0-60 in 3.5 (C/D). 3.6-3.7 sounds fair.

I don't think anyone has any delusions that that M240i should be faster than the M2 overall. If it could beat it off the line the S58 would have the power to overtake it with enough road as the speed goes up. The M240i is priced closer to and runs in the realm of S3s and such but has the performance to nip at the heels of it's bigger brothers that makes it's an exciting car for me.

I look forward to seeing the M2 run against the likes of the RS3s and CT4-V Blackwings, etc.

I have no doubt the M2 will be the vastly better car overall. 0-60 is just one very limited metric. Heck, I chose a RWD m240i over the xDrive version bc it's a lot more fun to drive, even though it's probably .5 seconds slower to 60.

the xDrive makes a huge difference for 0-60 though

the M2 is heaver with less power than the M3c

Thank you so much for hoping I “get it” one day. Maybe you can start a go fund me page so I can scrounge some money together so I don’t have to suffer the pains of driving a “fake” M car.

As a current M240 Xdrive owner converting to the G87, I seriously doubt an automatic G87 will take the 240 xdrive in a 0-60 contest only because of the all wheel drive component.l but I’m sure the G87 will win in a rolling race

I guess we'll see after next week!

Just curious for the 240i owners out there, what is your best measured 0-60 run with reputable software/data logger?

Respect

Sir respect to you and your M240 or 230. I had an xdrive e92 coupe before my M3. Of course that was manual too but I get it. Your car meets your needs. When you brought 99% of people into it I kind of lost it. I apologize for offending. I still think a rear wheel drive manual car is Joy Joy Joy! I wanted the same for you. If you never own a full M car I am sure you will be fulfilled. respect to all the M Lite owners.

I assure you I took no offense. However just some free advice there are many people that would take offense by your attitude that your way is the only correct way. Wanting me to experience what you think is the best way because I don’t know any better is not a good attitude to have. It would behoove you to take a step back and think perhaps other people may have a different opinion than yours. And guess what that’s fine! As a matter of fact it is what makes the world great! It isnt a matter of right or wrong and that is what you kept missing in my posts. I don’t care about what you think about what I drive. Nor should you care what I think. We are both correct for what’s best for us. If you really are sorry plese keep that in mind in future conversations to make this forum a more pleasant place.

Not trying to be an elitist prick. This is me and I am sure others will concur. The difference in the "butt dyno" and I am not talking about strict power can be substantial but also depends on the driver.
I mean this is pretty much spot on , it's not just the engine. Chassis & handling characteristics are definitely improved . + The steering in direct correlation to that

Cooling components are on a different level as well

Brakes+tires still better compared to M240 w/ ZTK package but prolly not a massive difference.

Don't get me started on the looks , the M2 is one sexy machine. I personally love it. I know were talking about performance here but regardless this effects my purchasing decision no question

Also bucket seats if that's your thing . But knowing BMW they'll eventually give that to M-lites , unlikely but possible.

The gap is definitely closing like never before. With these strong engines to begin with , you can spec CF roof now , M sport differential, M adaptive suspension, bigger brakes+ tires ZTK pack , paddle shifters, etc ..

Attitude

its passion not attitude. if it had behooved you to leave the 99% out of your logic we wouldn't even be having this convo. You wont address that though... as for pleasantries good day to you!

Perhaps a bit off topic, but close enough , I’m deep (1 year?) on my dealer’s waiting list and planned on selling one of our 240i when the M2 arrives. Recently decided to keep both even with the new arrival as they’re just so much damn fun to drive. Even mom agrees. 😁

I've had an M Lite car and now own an actual M car.

Yes, there is a big difference between the 2.

I've had both, and there's a reason I'm all in on the g87 m2. I'd also like to have a m240i xdrive for the winters. there's nothing wrong with any of the m### cars and they are a blast still, I just want that last bit of fun.

Take the the manual/rear wheel drive out of the picture for a second...
The 2 series in general is a somewhat f-ugly car. The fenders and the wide looking stance on the m2 make such huge difference in appearance. I have been on the wait list for A WHILE... when I finally went in and saw an M240, I almost cancelled my m2 order on the spot.
If the m240 were faster and $30k cheaper, I would still take the M2 or pull the trigger on the Emira waiting list fun.
But, I am happy that we all have the option to buy the cars we want. If we all had matching cars, driving wouldn't be very fun.

M240i xDrive/ZTK will be faster 0 to road legal speeds for the average driver.

M240i xDrive will be faster on most if not all wet track even for experienced drivers.

On a back country public road, driving in a reasonably responsible manner neither will be faster. Usually cars with less grip are more fun at road legal speeds even.

1/4 mile run and dry road course M2 will be faster - but what percentage of owners will run either?

There is simply not enough performance difference between the M240i/ZTK xDrive and the M2.

The same is not true for the other M cars. An M3 Comp xDrive or M3 CS is in a different performance galaxy compared to the M340i.

Having said that - I'm buying the M2 because I will actually track it for fun often and it will feel slightly more special to drive.

I think what's funny is you coming to this forum and making such a juvenile comment. Kind of sad, actually.
