Voluntary Safety Recall - some G42 2er and G87 M2 (side air bag cover - rear seats)

After months of waiting and being a handful of days away from a PCD, I was just notified that a stop sale was issued and the delivery is canceled. Anyone else get the same news yet today?

What is your dealer? Any reason was given for stop sale?
If you were scheduled to pick up the car then most likely you already paid for it.
In that case it is yours and they have to give it to you.

You're saying the car finished production and was delivered to the dealership but they canceled your order?

It sounds like they sold the car out from under you to someone off the street, at a big markup.

Did you get your deposit back?

This is not true. I had the exact same thing happen to me.

This happened to me back in September. The night before driving down for PCD my car was hit with a stop sale. Went down and participated in all the activities and got to see my car but was not able to take it. Once the stop sale was lifted my car was shipped up to my local dealership and I took delivery there. When you say your delivery was cancelled what exactly are you referring to? Just not being able to take the car home?

I talked to the performance center delivery manager and the issue involves the airbags, that's all I know so far as the stop sale was just announced.

And I did fully pay for the car two days ago but from what I was told they cannot release it to me because of this stop sale. At this point I have the option of doing the PCD without the actual delivery, or waiting and rescheduling with no idea when that might be. Pretty bummed to say the least. If it goes longer than a week or so I will definitely seek some sort of compensation for the lost time/expenses.

This is not what a stop sale means. Stop sales are issued when a issue is found with something in certain vehicles and when one is issued those cars have to sit until it is resolved.

Thanks for clarification... that makes sense.

I would recommend going if you have never been. I debated it and was extremely happy I chose to go. Not getting the car sucks but the rest of the experience is great. I was offered compensation for my issue but I am currently still waiting for the check, so we will see if it ever comes.

Ahh, good to know that compensation takes time if it comes to that.

I do think I am going to go since I already made a bunch of arrangements with work/kids but its going to be tough to leave without it! Im lucky enough to be within reasonable driving distance so I am hoping I can drive back and pick it up whenever the stop sale is lifted. Really hope its not longer than a week or two but who knows.

The car will most likely be shipped to whichever dealer you bought it through. I was given the impression they wanted the cars in and out as they have so many people who do PCD and limited space. The experience was awesome. I am sure you will not regret going.

As others have explained, many of us went through a Stop Sale due to a faulty rear camera. Although I was scheduled to pick up the next day, I was contacted and told that the car cannot be released to me due to a safety concern. It did not matter if was paid for or not.

I was not offered any compensation for the nearly three week wait. The dealership did change the dates for effective warranty and such to match the actual delivery date (October 12) from the original date (mid-September).

I did not inquire into compensation as my experience with the dealership has been less than positive. My sales associate (I also do not like the "CA" moniker) has been great; not the dealership.

Best of luck for a speedy fix and then start enjoying this awesome vehicle!

Just got a stop sale notice this afternoon. Was planning on doing the PCD on February 9th, but not now.

As others have posted the dealer sent me a screenshot of the stop sale order.

It sucks but rather the car be safe then not.
Hopefully the wait is only a few weeks and not months

Tom petty was right…..

You cannot sell the car, but you can drive it? What?

I’m scheduled to collect my car from the dealer on Tuesday (UK), and just had a call from my Sales Rep.

He says he’s not aware of any issues or stop sale on my car, but would confirm.

I also spoke with BMW UK Genius service and they said there are no stop sale or hold notes against my vehicle.

As far as I’m aware, I’m going ahead with handover Tuesday. Is it possible there’s a difference between LHD and RHD vehicles?

For reference, I’m a UK spec M240i xDrive, Production week was 5th December. Makes me wonder if it’s different here?

ClammyPepper It says 'certain', I am not sure if it is just 'lawyering' or really affects only some cars.

I am in Poland, yesterday I talked to my rep yesterday and I should to take delivery next Friday (crossed fingers). Production date mid November (10th?).

It may only be for US spec vehicles.

I had a stop sale on mine here in the UK, something to do with rivets, bmw issued a rework instruction and the local dealer was able to correct it prior to me picking it up, so luckily no delay for me.

I got notified of the stop sale last Friday as I was leaving my house to pick up the car. Any idea on how long till we can get our cars? Super excited to pick it up though.

That stinks...On the day! I was told the night prior to when I was to go in.

As for the question, I do not know for your situation. My stop sale added about three weeks to the pick-up day.
