Why did BMW put a full climate control in the back?

Does anyone actually stuff passengers in the backseats on a regular basis?

The only reason that I can think of is this: BMW engineers had one too many beers during a design session, so the put it in and forgot about it?

3 and 4 series have it, they are simply reusing existing P/N’s.

You might as well just ask why there's a back seat at all.

It would be a big oversight to have a backseat in a $60k luxury sport coupe without climate control.

The last 2 series (F22) didn’t have it. People still bought them.

The real answer is the parts are shared with the G20. Same part numbers. Presumably it was cheaper to reuse the parts than take it out but have to design and stock new parts.

My kid uses it every time he gets in his car seat back there.

Also this is such a strange thing to bother you.

After several months of ownership, this past weekend saw the first rear-seat passenger! Great to have temp zone for them even if this will be a rare occurrence!

Happy to have back seats just in case, only my dog has been back there so far, no humans.

It’s my daily drive, I have my kids in the back every day!
Also have had grown-ups in the back of the car on regular basis.
As long as they are not bigger than 175cm. It fits perfectly and nobody had ever complained. (Only the real big people over 6 foot)
So never understand why people here bother…

I especially choose this car because it has rear seats, so I can drive my family with me daily. If I didn’t needed back seats, I would have choosen an other car.

It's a bit funny because the last 2 series had more backseat headroom and getting behind the front seat was easier. They added the climate vents, but the new back seat is less usable overall.

I have a hammock cover that covers everything, so there's really no chance of damage.

I have a 2.5# chihuahua… pretty sure she will fit in the door pocket if she ever rides in the 240

Yes, I am going to have my kids back there every day. I am glad it has climate controls so they don’t get to hot in South Florida. It cracks me up. I frequently see in these forums where someone cannot fathom anyone using the car in any other way aside from the way they use it.

Garage List
I am grateful that the 2-series has backseats because I put my wheelchair back there (have a full seats and sides cover as well as the back of the front seats) and can still fit 1 other person in a pinch while having an empty trunk.
