335d First Timer :)

Hello my fellow diesel owners

Since I'm new to the D(I still laugh when I see it just like that), thought I would pop in and introduce myself.

I recently purchased my first diesel 5 days ago, first diesel but long time multiple BMW owner. OK, Ok, Lets get to the car, it is a 2011 335d M-Sport Alpine Weiss(white) III or whatever white it is, I'll have to check; with only 41,654 miles(I'm in the USA). It is weird too, I have no paddle shifters or navigation, thought all M-Sports came with them. Anyways, that wasn't a deal breaker since I never use car navigations and the paddles I can have them retrofitted. So far no complaints, love the low end torque, dislike how slow it is after 115mph. First thing first is getting rid of those ugly wheels, what was BMW thinking. Next will be the CBU cleaning and the block to prevent the CBU, got to find a shop first. I'm in New Jersey if you guys have any suggestions. Next will be a non-race tune/remap, I can never keep my cars stock for longer than 2 months . And cannot forget to get an M or M-Sport steering wheel with paddle shifter and retrofit kit. Well those are my plans for the car so far which should be done soon. If you are in NJ, lets get together and have coffee or something, would love to learn more about these Diesel engines.

Oh yeah, picture of the car, WARNING: I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO RESIZE

Enjoy

I recommend joining the Facebook group as well. There are a few NY/NJ guys who can probably steer you in the right direction with shops to use. As far as the EGR Block-off plates and tune I'd recommend Andrew at AARodriguez. You won't be disappointed with a JR tune. Also, most folks have gone to a race pipe to remove the EGR valve all together, so you can probably find someone who has some plates for sale for cheap, not that their expensive anyway. They seem to pop up every now and then.

I've been leaning towards the JR Tune stage 2, and this facebook group you speak of, how would I find it? All the ones I have found and un-joined are either in Europe, some middle eastern county or some countries in South Africa.

Actually some of the very last m sports produced were delivered with those wheels. Supposedly bmw ran out of the normal m sport wheels. But it's possible they were swapped by the PO.

Tempo, what you are saying is the true story. Last m-sports got those wheels that OP shows. If OP looks at driver's B pillar, he can tell us production date. I bet it's mid year 2011. My 2011 m-sport had the 193 wheels we are all accustomed to and it has the 11/2010 date on the b pillar.

OP, I also am running the JR 2.0. This used to be the top tune available but there are now 2.5 , 2.8 and even further. If you are going to go to the deletes, the tuner will likely suggest that you go right to 2.8. If you think you will end up there anyway, it save you time and hassle. I've been dragging my feet but I intend to go to 2.8. Good luck with your mods. Yozh wrote a great thread on adding the paddles. Just do an advanced search under all threads started by Yozh.

Does it have a heated steering wheel? MSport wheel and heated wheel are (or were) incompatible.

I've always liked the white bmws.

Thanks for the 2.5-2.8 suggestions, but I'm not trying to take out all of the emissions out. Here in NJ, it is really tough to get a car passed by a private inspection center even if you suggest an extra tip for all their troubles.

No heated steering wheel , it really sucks in cold winters. Plus I dislike driving with gloves on.

Yes, I have a black headliner. That is the first thing I looked for when I test drove it.

Welcome. I suggest you put some money away for rear tires. Even with my highway miles and fun merging, I seem to be burning through them 2+x faster then fronts

Surprised no paddles were ordered with the MSport but if you are the type that likes to control things then get those in there: I personally use mine every day.

White/saddle 2011 that runs 78 to Bridgewater a few days a week. I always nod a the D's, hard to see when they fly by on the highway however.

At 88K now, CBU done in the 70's. With 40K you should be relatively fine but CBU seems to be such a crap shoot...

Check my mfg date, and it's 07/2011. Still don't like the rims on it now. Need to change them soon.

Yep, by July they had run out of the 193 wheels. This was one of the reasons I bought a slightly used (6100 miles) one. I purchased in September 2011.

Subjective of course, and while not the 193s, to me your wheels are *stupid* easy to clean, unlike the 193s <grumble>

I personally think those look excellent and wouldn't kick them out of the garage

Your car was likely one of the last ones to get the 193m wheels. I suppose it is possible that a few got them in 7/2011 build until they ran dry.
