Actual weight?

As we all know, a lot of the articles online are complaining about the curb weight on the new 2-series (especially the M240i).

My question is this - have any of you new owners put your cars on a scale? Curious what we’re seeing in terms of actual weight numbers…

Bump for this as there's different methods for measuring these days (how much gas, driver weight, fully optioned, etc.).

The curb weights quoted are coming straight from BMW themselves (you can see it under the “specifications” tab on their website. Industry standard is weight of full tank of gas, full fluids, and only standard equipment. No options, no passengers. Note for the 2 series in the US that will include the sunroof, as the sunroof is technically standard with the delete an option. Some OEMs include driver (unsure if BMW does)- if so they usually estimate 160-175ish lbs for them (~75-80 kgs)

You can find specific weight information on your car on the driver door jamb compliance label (that also has things like recommended tire pressures listed). If exact curb weight is not listed you can get a rough estimate based on gross weight minus max allowed payload. These labels are required by law and are specific to your VIN and the options included on the vehicle.

I'm very eager to know my 230's weight. I got only the M Sport and Dynamic Handling packages...with the roof delete. My aftermarket wheels are a tick lighter too. I don't know BMW's exact protocols, but I'm looking to get some scales under my car. I'll do it with no junk in the car (that includes me) and a full tank. BMW says a 230i is 3519. I have not idea what's in that. I got bigger brakes, different wheels (IDK if lighter or heavier despite being bigger), no roof, so I already don't know what my car really weighs. I am hoping I break below the 3500 mark. I'll be eager to see the weight of an M240 RWD when they become available.

I'd love to see some others' DIY measurements too.

That's a close 51/49 split F/R too, very nice. This makes me think my car, with very few options, may be under 3500, but the fuel variable is questionable if you're at a half tank. Gas is about 6lbs per gallon...though these tanks are small.

UPDATE: So, I did the math on an extra half tank of fuel. These cars have a 13.7 gallon tank. Gasoline weighs 6.3 lbs. per gal. So, 6.85g x 6.3lb = 43.15lbs. Just if you wanted to get a full-tank weight reading...you'd be at 3603.

Thanks for posting!

Similar to what BMW has been saying. If I remember correctly the 230i has around a 51:49 weight distribution and M240i ~53:47 distribution.
