N20 Swap or just part out my F30?
6 months ago I paid 6,900 for my 2015 BMW 320i XDrive
Twin Turbo F30 with the n20 engine with 130k miles and the engine just locked up wasn’t able to manually turn it even without serpentine belt on. Found two motors both for $1700 and have 129k and 130k and I think labor should be around $1500. Is it worth fixing up and flipping it? Or should I part everything out? If I do part out wondering how much I’d make. |

I personally think 130k miles on a replacement engine is a little too high. I would replace the timing chain at a minimum before installation. I just replaced the engine on my 2012 with a 60k mile engine and it took me one day to do it.

I agree here too.
I'd also consider this, if you were to drop the additional $3200 into the vehicle, you'd be all in at $10,100. I'd run a KBB to see what private party values are going for to understand how upside down you could end up so you don't have more money into the car than you're comfortable with. If you're going to drive it until the wheels fall off, it might be the right decision to drop in another engine. Personal finances will always dictate what you want (car payment, additional $$$ for a down payment, etc).
