Peugeot 205 GTi 1.9
Anyone had one - recently?
What do you think? Considering a 2000EUR leggy shed to get from A to B with a smile.

Cracking car back in the day. Still would be fun now. Just don't crash it!

I had 2 back in the 80's, as well as a 309GTi.
The only cars I have EVER bottled out before the car let go. Amazing drive. Seat of the pants quick and pretty comfortable. Would like to have a go now to see how it compares to a modern car (as per your post). Go for it anyway - you'll get your money back and still smile. Mike |

Thanks for your thoughts.
I think they still look really good - and its seems there is a healthy supply of them here that look pretty good (noting looks could be misleading!) It is this, or a UK CLK55 Cab (if I can be faffed to get one), or just started looking at Clio Williams - but these are quite pricey here. A white or red or dark grey 205 GTi (Mk1 with amber indicators & pano roof) would be very nice I think.

Be careful if you get one with a sunroof. Even new they were troublesome with leaks and sticking. The seal mechanism was pneumatic and leaked air, hence letting in water. I understand that because of the lack of stiffness due to the big hole in the roof, the body was prone to buckle - causing the roof to crack/shatter. You MUST ensure the roof moves smoothly.
If you've driven an EP3 Civic Type R, then they have a lot in common to drive, although the Pug is quieter! Mike |

Had one in the early 90s. Cracking cars and a great drive. As said before watch the sunroof for leaks and the throotle cable had a habit of 'snapping'. One minute you would be fine the next the pedal would be to the floor. Wakes you up quickly

One of my favorite car memories, the 1.9 gti
Question : didn't the later cars have power steering which sapped power making them no quicker than the 1.6?
