Squeeze been to Barca twice.

I usually prefer to book my own flights and hotel - but depends on whether you are taking kids in tow or not.

Where you stay depends on what you are looking to over the weekend.

The main drag along La Rambla is where a lot places are but they can get quite noisy. If you are feeling flush stay at the Hotel Arts at the bottom La Rambla http://www.hotelartsbarcelona.com/

Stay away from El Raval. Part of La Rambla (the bottom part) can get a bit dodgy. There are lots of latino people who just hang around near the El Raval district and can look quite menacing/dodgy.

There are lots of international hotels around Catalonia Place (at the top of La Rambla). But its a long walk down La Rambla.

The olympic park is worth seeing, you can go by cable car all the way from the top to the seafront by cable car.

Get yourself a pop up map (from Waterstones) its quite useful to get about.

The softguides web site is quite good to find accomodation.

use venere.com to book your hotel, you cant go wrong. You dont have to stay away from the bottom of las ramblas but do be wary, plenty of prozzies about too. Real ugly ones at that! LOL

Make sure you visit the restaurant 'Attic' opposite starbucks on las ramblas and make sure you make the most of the metro.
