Front Camera Activation

Is there a way to set the front camera to come on automatically when parking? Usually when you put it into reverse and put it in drive it doesn't auto pop up and you would need to click the screen or the button to activate it.

Maybe this is of some help. A paste from my 230ix's digital owners manual:

Operating concept
The camera-based individual systems are operated with the toolbars on the control display. Choose a camera view by selecting the appropriate icon.

Some parking assistance systems can be configured individually in the Parking menu.

Go to Park menu
Via Parking Assistant button
1. Press the button.
2. "Settings"
3. Select the desired settings.

Via iDrive
1. "MENU"
2. "Vehicle apps"
3. "Driving settings"
4. "Driver assistance"
5. "Parking and manoeuvring"
6. Select the desired settings.

When reversing I see the image from the front camera displayed.

Or if I am pulling into a parking space I can press the parking assist button and then have the front camera image.

I do not recall if this was just the way I received the car or if I activated the front camera via the parking assist settings.

you can also set a location for it to turn on the camera. I have my driveway set so whenever I pull in on my driveway the camera turns on so I can see my distance in the garage. I believe you press the camera button and in the menu it should have a "save location"

I’d forgotten I saw this feature mentioned. I manually turn it on every time I enter my garage. I need to set this!!

The downside to this is that only camera turns on, no sensors unfortunately.

Actually, they do (sometimes) turn on once you are close to an object. I have mine set to my garage, and it turns on the front camera, and usually shows the lines on the screen with proximity warnings when I get close to the front of the garage (I pull in).

My front sensors just won’t activate when approaching something head on when parking. Really annoying.
