Car Died on me while driving 335D

2009 BMW 335D

I checked my battery at autozone. After I checked the battery, I was driving to another autozone to pick up some front brake pads and my car dies on me 1 mile down the road.

I was told prior by the autozone guy that my battery was bad.

I towed it home bought a new a battery now It does not start at all. When I press the start button it shows a warning on the screen. It says electrical system malfunction.

Could it be an alternator?

Does the tach show rpm when cranking? Or does it not crank?

With the electrical message I'd check your ground straps, there is one on the engine by the motor mount and one in the rear.
To test if this is the issue, attach a jumper cable from the engine (alternator bolts are a good spot) to a grounded point on the body. Obviously taking care to avoid the cable tangling in the belts.

If this doesn't help google BMW IBS issue and check that as well.
