BMW Z8 with Custom 6Sixty Design Wheels and Bilstein Suspension

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
After buying the Z8 I always knew it would need a slight tweak. The car is beautiful and full of lovely design details but the OE wheels were always a weak spot for me.

I love the Alpina Dynamic wheels so I thought lets make some inspired by those but in 2 Piece Forged and with some concave/brushed finish.

Really happy with how they turned out. Also had to get the car sitting right with some custom Bilstein MDS Coilovers by NTP in Italy.

Supersprint Manifold, Sport Cats and Exhaust are on their way from Italy so looking forward to releasing some V8 sound.

Eventuri intake development also starting soon!

Some bonus shots of our M Coupe included.

OEM wheels for reference

I agree unfortunately… such a beautiful machine, but not my flavour of wheels.

Well done regardless.

Idk. It doesn't match. Not bad but just looks off. The car/body lines are very elegant, almost classic looking and the wheels look too modern/rugged. Shoes don't match the outfit.

Former boss had a Z8 with Meisterschaft exhaust.
Damn, it sounded incredible.

Then he ruined it by adding HREs that were too big, too blingy.
Looked like a wannabe DONK from afar.

Agree. I think if they were 1" smaller, with a touch less drop, he would have nailed the look. They are a bit too big and the car a bit too low for such a car based on classic roadster looks and proportions. (similar things happen with resto-mods)

Id have sourced OEM Alpina rims instead, but that's just me. These are like too big Alpina versions.

US is always been good at hot-rodding cool cars, just a culture thing. Im sure this car will see its OEM fat chunky rubber back one day. These cars will look so cool when all OEM and stock, and everything electric is buzzing around them.

Enjoy the car! Probably one of the nicest BMW ever made, bar none, especially in this century.

Would have personally gone with the OEM Alpinas. But lovely Z8 nonetheless.

Lovely car but those wheels don't match it. Kills it in my opinion.

Wheels are a very personal choice. I can see why Imran chose to go with a contemporary take on the original Alpina Dynamic but that wheel in it's original form doesn't really look good on anything.

It's very easy to mess up or jack up the lines of a car especially something that was inspired by a car from the 1950's. If you get it right it's beautifully cohesive, but if one gets it wrong the aesthetic looks contrived.

With that said there is really only one Alpina
wheel that looks good on an E52 Z8 in my opinion…

Z8 possibly the pinnacle of BMW engineering for that time.

I think classic multispoke BBS wheels look great on the Z8.

Perfect color combo, interior and exterior. Love it. IMHO the wheel diameter is too big for the car. Doesn't look right to my eye.

The car wasn't meant to come with that soft 18" design and the designer of the car would put 20" Alpina's on the car himself.

BMW usually do a great job with wheels but its a complete mismatch for me personally.

From the designer of the car Henrik Fiske:

"HF: You know, I had the opportunity to buy one as I was leaving BMW, they would sell me one at a discount as a nice gesture, and it felt wrong to show up to Aston Martin driving the Z8, a car which would have competed to a degree with the cars we would be designing there.

Now, that being said, I am actively searching for one, a prime example in that dark grey. They’re very hard to find as it turns out. The original car that was presented had 19’’ wheels, and then sold with 18” to accommodate snow chains and stuff, but originally it was 19”. I believe the Alpina version has 20” rims, and it looks perfect."

Thanks!

Its a very special car. Even the switch gear is unique to the car and not shared with other BMWs. The indicators are neon tubes in a time before LEDs. The trunk is carpet lined.

The OEM wheels will only go back on if the car ever needs to be sold. I'm hoping this day never comes!
