Losing time and trip miles?
Have a bit of an odd issue going on once sub-zero temps hit. So whenever I start up my car these days I've lost my date/time and also trip miles. All of my audio settings and service intervals are still there. What is going on here?
My battery voltage should be good as my dash cams are still working and that has a LV disconect of 11.6V. |

Classic your battery is just about gone symptom.
Check your resting battery voltage in the morning before the first start. A good battery voltage is 12.3 and above. Time and the trip computer setting are the only visible things you loose with a total battery disconnect. The other stuff is stored in non volatile memory . You might try topping off your battery with a long slow charge just to verify. https://modernsurvivalblog.com/alter...-charge-chart/ read chart in above link. If its 11.6 when you ask start it it will go below 8 or 9 volts maybe more. Last edited by ctuna; 03-07-2019 at 06:29 PM.. |

Yeah so resting voltage is at 12.5 which isn't the best but is still okay. It doesn't happen on every start so kind of an intermittent issue. What I suspect may be happening is that with the extra long cranks in the cold weather maybe the battery is dipping to low enough of a voltage for long enough for it to lose the time and trip mileage? No codes.
I will try to hook up my CTEK for a while and see if that helps. |

Other common starter problems are
The ground strap goes bad between the engine and chassis. The starter. But the fact the voltage drops enough to reset the electronics suggests battery . I though you said you measured it at 11.6 in your first post. After it has set overnight or for a long period the battery will be at its lowest. I guess I misunderstood the cam cuts off at 11.6 |
