Anyone aware of BMW working on an OEM solution for protection? I just had my car coated and the shop had another m2 in and had a cover I hadn’t seen before. They said the owner told them it was a new OEM add on but I can’t find anything…

Manual cars due to not having a transmission cooler in front of the radiator have had an OEM grid over the radiator since earlier this year, if not for all deliveries. The leaves get trapped behind that grid after sliding between the bars,

This. It's not new, it's always been there.
You have an exposed transmission cooler in front, that we don't have.

It was also a manual and not a transmission cooler cover. Picture attached.

I say leave the leaf in there, as a warning to other leaves.

It doesn’t look OEM, seems to be painted metal due to the chips that are visible and has the 50th anniversary Roundels, so is likely an earlier, possibly HEA car, unless the Roundels were purchased after delivery.

It seems to be this: https://www.radiatorgrillstore.com/p...esh-protection

This isn’t genuine. It’s an aftermarket part.
And it doesn’t look good, although it might provide some protection (with detrimental effect to airflow).

Remove the plastic guard

Half of the G87s roll out of the factory without it anyway

I 100% have leaves behind my Zunsport screens...a lot of them. I don't know how they sneak in but they do.

I had this same exact problem, and getting behind the radiator with a pressure washer is not an option. I ended up using a cleaning brush which helped break down the leaves into smaller pieces, then used a compressed air can to blow away the rest.

Suspect they are sucked in by the radiator fan.

My Boxster was real bad about this. With radiator fans running the car was essentially hoovering up stuff. The air blast from the radiator would stir up dust/dirt/leaves -- mainly when driving at slow speed on a parking lot -- and into the radiator ducts it would go.

The Turbo was nearly as bad.

A time or two I had to remove the Boxster front bumper cover and then unbolt the A/C condensers (one in front of each radiator) and remove all stuff that had accumulated in front of the condenser but also between the condenser and radiator.

Pics below to show you want I'm talking about...

Thankfully after a while the techs developed a technique to blow the trash out when the car was on a lift for an oil/filter service. The techs had an air nozzle with a length of small hose that could be slipped into the radiator duct from the exhaust side and the air blast would blow all the trash out.

I have removed 1. They are doing a good job of keeping debris out or minimized.

My F87 had so many leaves stuck on top of the oil cooler I ended up dropping it while installing a turner skidplate and blowing off all the leaves with compressed air lol
