Valve Controller Trunk Install

Anyone done this? I don’t want to install under the car.

I found a reference of someone doing it on a G42, but that only has one valve which equals one cable. Wondering if routing two cables from the right side of the trunk is difficult on a G87

I considered that, but did not want to cut the rubber seal and expose my car.

So I mounted it from the bottom and left it under a panel.

Just lift the battery cover/liner and you’ll see a bunch of rubber boots you can remove and cut to feed the cables. Recommend using silicone to seal it afterwards if you choose to go that route.

However, modules should be waterproof, so not a lot of gain in doing that from the inside.

Yes I've done it.

Easy to route, there's two grommets either side of the battery.

You just need to loosen the heat shield under the car to get access. About 6 or 8 10mm bolts.

Few pics below for you.

I've got a exhaust valve controller that works directly with the stock exhaust button. No stupid remotes floating around the interior. Works as I switch M1/M2 modes, via the IDrive settings or the exhaust valve button, etc. just like stock but 100% open valves.

Active solutions, modified it for the G80, it's essentially the same as the F series so the electronica work across both models.

Means I can find tune with the Bluetooth app aswell.

For anyone wondering, did this tonight and it was super easy.

I fucked up and popped out both the grommets though when trying to get the cables through. Need to figure out a bootleg way to seal the holes because getting them back in is impossible

Does your controller have an integrated grommet surrounding the cables?

Not sure what exactly you mean so I’ll go with no, don’t come with anything other than the controller box, 2 cables, zip ties and some 3M Velcro strips. I may be able to salvage the stock grommet but it’s a huge pain

So you routed the cable and left the hole exposed? Are you sealing around the cables with silicone or something?

Yeah the holes on both sides are open pending whatever I figure out, was too lazy to do it tonight. I’m definitely not leaving it like that don’t worry

Cool!
I lifted the carpet and saw it, decided I’d rather risk the controller (which is said explicitly to be waterproof) under the car than touch the car to preserve it. Fear of brine going in through the holes etc. good you’re sealing them.

Yeah definitely a reasonable concern. Dealing with all the extra length of cabling was extremely extremely easy using the trunk, at the cost of breaking those grommets

Cut a hole in the middle of the grommets.

Feed the harness through.

Install them in backwards from inside the trunk.

You can also put some silicon in with them if you're that concerned about something coming in.

Follow up for anyone in the future, reinstalled the grommets today. If you happen to pop them out just slide under the car and pop them in from the outside into the trunk, it's way easier. Threw a little silicone sealant on them and good to go.

Also side note, happy to report my car keeps the valves open when doing remote start, which I had read a few times is not the case.

Hey man, which valve controller did you end up going with and how has it been holding up? I also don't want to cut any rubber seals to route the wires through the trunk and am looking for a good reliable plug and play option you can just hide in the heat shields.

Try the AwronCANflap. I just had it installed yesterday. It works with the exhaust button inside.

That was my preference, but isn’t it $700?
